Kalafina in Budokan 28 February - 01 March 2015

I actually loved Tetoteto because of the dance. It was ridiculous but it fit the whimsical tone of the song. Moonfesta's dance otoh.....not good.

Honestly, Red Day was not as bad as I was expecting. It's setlist was not as good as Blue's but it still had some of the best performances between both days. HnS, Consolation, When the fairytale ends, and fantasia were fantastic.

@wat11 It's been a year or so since we've heard any news about new Kajiura projects hasn't it. I hope she's using this break to gather up inspiration; her last soundtrack, SAOII, was really mediocre.

Other things I noticed about the live:

- Less Wakana shots compared to the other two girls. Noticeable focus on Keiko (as usual).
- When Wakana does get a camera shot, it's usually straight in front, rarely at a "dramatic" angle. Keiko always gets the good angles.
- When girls sings harmony, more camera time is given to the ones doing the harmony than the lead singer. Smh. This is probably why Keiko got a lot more camera shots, because the editor tries to give camera time to anyone who's singing.
- Keiko seems to always put her hand behind her back during slow or mid-tempo songs. Why I don't know.
- Keiko took out her ponytail after DU, before signal. (Awwww I loved that ponytail)
- I prefer Satou Yoshiaki's accordion performance during the Consolation Special Final BD.
- When Hikaru struggles with notes, she does this. This was eternal during ARIA.

They need to re-hire the video editor for the Red Moon BD. Much better then since the shots had more distributed screentime amongst the girls (and the FBM).

I wonder if the camera crews were fully briefed/prepared for the Budokan lives and were able to get the shots that they were aiming for in focus and properly illuminated? I was happy with Red Moon and the FJ/FJY videos that way.

I've watched the discs and here's my opinion...
1. Hikaru's voice on Red Day is bad, sounds like she's got a cold (when I got a cold my voice becomes a little bit like that), but at the end of Red Day & on Blue Day it gets better, ahhh, it's a relief.
2. The dance moves, haha, ridiculous but seems like they're really having fun.
3. I guess they do not edit much in these two lives.
4. Some of the songs are very different from their previous lives, I don't know why I have that feeling.
5. The musicians deserve more time on screen.

Hikaru's voice was hoarse and her nose was plugged.... forcing her to sing while having a cold is so cruel, you could tell that she was in pain while singing so often.... I'm sure when her voice got better they had an MC not shown on the DVD where she got that spray down her throat...

/me hugs Hikaru

Blue Day was lovely though  that Red moon (red moon on the best blue....) was almost as perfect as the 5th anni live section

The Japan Expo documentary was so LAME, not showing the fans giving them presents (I FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE SHARK AND THIS WAS MY LAST HOPE), not showing the girls that cosplayed ttb Kalafina, not showing the awesome moments from the signing sessions... not showing Nyan hugging Wakana out of nowhere and her priceless expression:ohoho:

In this one they also used robotic or tele-controlled cameras since in one song I saw an unmanned camera moving around.

@wat: Are you not a Kala fan? This was one of the biggest Lives that we have seen so far, and yes, every one is different. Everyone is commenting though that Kajiura is not producing any "new" music, it's just the same song, but I like Believe and Ring Your Bell. I hope they stay together for a long time, because it's because of they're awesome performances like these that they can prove that they can sing, even if they are sick or something, as Hikaru seemed to be. I am amazed at their lives, which is one of the reasons why I love this band so much. I have seen them twice now, at Anime Boston, when they were first starting out, and recently at ACen, and both times were great. But this was Budokan! Of course they were going to be nervous. I even saw Hikaru's hand shake a little bit and thought, either it's from running around just now or it's that she's nervous. Anyways, that's just me though.

@Varete: Those girls cosplaying as Kalafina were HimeWakana and her friends. But that sucks that they did not show that. The Anime Boston doc. was really great. *sigh* Hopefully the next live will be filmed better as well.

A few highlighting moments, as in, a lot:

- I didn't enjoy Red Day nearly as much as I did Blue Day. Like in percentage I would put Red Day as 30% and Blue Day as 70%
- Te to's dance made me crack up
- Kagayaku was beautiful
- ARIA was really good, I especially liked the 'amata to aria ga' at the end, somehow sounded more epic than usual
- Moonfesta was very enjoyable to watch, they were all really cute and the dance at the middle made me smile
- I tried to find atmosphere in Hikari Furu but I couldn't get any emotion from this due to the continuing angles and messy camerawork overall. But I loved the lighting and the signing.

INCEPTION
- WTFE what un-describingly amazing
- Fairytale's choreography was cute, Hikaru's sayonara was prettier than expected
- Kyrie and Consolation were boring af
- Ongaku had hardly enough energy as I'd hoped, but was fun to watch regardless
- I don't like the red dresses, feathers? Too complicated
- Yume no Daichi was beautiful, and THE STRIIIIINGS
- Eden was the most enjoyable to watch, with them running around everywhere waving at the audience
- Mune no Yukue was my favourite live of it so far
- Alleluia was glorious and heartwarming
- Japan Expo was so boring, was expecting much more, but Wakana was so gorgeous in that last clip

- TIME FOR THE FANGIRLING TO START
- It was lovely watching the girls come up one by one, Wakana's smile melted my heart :plz:
- Everything was perfect in Storia expect Hikaru's singing
- I really liked Natsu no Ringo, surprisingly
- I have a dream was so amazing~ Whenever I think of Blue Day I'll always think of that one huge shot with Wakana at the front and Hikaru and Keiko on the sides
- Seventh Heaven was... ARGHH AMAZING
- Hantaba was beautiful, Hikaru sung really well (not nasally at all), finally living up to the studio version. I loved the animation in the background, of glass teardrops shattering at the chorus, very pretty. and that accordion tho.
- Kimi no Gin was really nice, the singing was great, and I liked the animation.
- Manten was great. The magic circle was cool. Wakana hit all her notes perfectly and was amazing, and Hikaru sounded better too. The only let down would be Keiko's chorus, it wasn't that good...
- to the beginning was pretty standard, except for Wakana's awesome 'kirisaite'
- Numquam Vincar... My mouth was wide open throughout all of it. This piano solo, touching than intense, soft than intense again, then BAM and the violin solo when I was expecting guitar and the guitar when I was expecting violins and the lights and AHH I CANT DESCRIBE IT IN WORDS
- Even though I knew what was happening, I was still so surprised when I saw Kalafina appear at the side of the stage. SO AWESOME
- The choreography for Magia made me laugh so much, I was expecting something but not that. The lighting was amazing too, one of my favourite Magia lives, perhaps my favourite, beside After Eden
- Keiko's solo in Destination Unknown was cool, but nothing will ever beat that climax, Hikaru got so intense during the end my eyes were just glued to her. And Hikaru's "yuku no" was so long OMG (and she says she has trouble singing long notes, all that practisings paid off!)
- When Wakana look her Jacket off I had to take a minute break just lurching on the arm of the couch and breathing heavily. I don't remember much of signal after that.
- Ongaku was great
- The transition between Ongaku and heavenly blue was great, sadly I've lost all feeling for any heavenly blue concert ever
- snowfallingwassobeautifulomgimcrying
- Symphonia... don't care much for the song... didn't care much for the peformance
- Red Moon was cool, but my favourite will always be After Eden, and Keiko's solo was a little shouty
- Believe was actually enjoyable
- Sprinter was a disappointing end to a concert. Hikaru and Wakana weren't energetic at all, and they hardly moved, but the singing was great.
- I loved them saying goodbye to the audience, especially Keiko running up too the audience, Keiko pushing Wakana, Wakana blowing a kiss, and Hikaru's final epic finger point with the audience cheering behind her.
- The Doc was really fun to watch, especially Keiko sitting on the stage, them snuggling up in blankets, Hikaru waving at the camera like we saw her do at the start of Red Day, a cute moment between Wakana and Hikaru practising for intro for Fairytale, and Hikaru cutely jumping around during Ongaku Ahh Hikaru I wuv you~~~~~

Well, they were both enjoyable. Blue Day was a lot better than red Day.
Most enjoyed:
- Te to te to me to me
- Kagayaku
- ARIA
- Moonfesta
- Fairytale
- Eden
- Alleluia
- I have a dream
- Seventh Heaven
- Hanataba
- Numquam Vincar
- Magia
-Destination Unknown
- Signal only cause of Wakana's sexy moment lol
- snow falling

Some reviews on both lives.

Personally I like Blue Days setlist more compare to Red Days. Wakana's voice is better in Red day, maybe she was tired after the first day. Hikaru wasn't do so well in Red Day, but she was getting better on Blue day started from Magia Quattro onwards. Keiko's performance was good as always

Red Day:
Misterioso
- Wakana's voice was superb!
Te to te to me to me - Wakana's high chorus is better in Red Moon live, she seems to stop slightly earlier and less powerful. I like their dance here, seems like adding some Thai influence here.
Fantasia - Wakana and Keiko did great here, love the violin here!
Lacrimosa - I didnt really like how Wakana twist some of the notes, especially towards the end part. But she did a better job here compare to Red Moon live in terms of the low notes and this part "Maboroshi no basha wa yami o wake hikari no aru hou e"
Kagayaku sora no shijima ni wa - Some noticeable flaws by Hikaru - minamoto 'waka'eru
Aria - Most people had discusses about it so i will pass here
Believe - It sounds great! Its better than the Blue Day XD
Moonfesta - The one Consolation live was better ><
Neverending - Finally i can hear the harmony at the 'lalalala' part clearer, especially Keiko's part! I love this version better, thanks to the string
Hikari Furu - The best Hikari Furu from Wakana! High notes was beautiful and not strained. Just that "mousugu" part or else it would be perfect:orz:
Hikari no Senritsu - Its beautiful as always! This was one of the song that always been consistent so far.
When the Fairytale Ends - This version will definitely sounds much better with the addition of string :dote:
Fairytale - Love the opening concept, Hikaru was not fast enough in one of the part though XD Personally i think Wakana sounds better in Red Moon live.
Oblivious - Wakana's 'aaaaa' part was better this time, and she make it longer which it suppose to be. Besides from Hikaru's part in the opening Kajiurago it sounds good to me
Kyrie - This is also another song that always been consistent
Consolation - It sounds better than Consolation live, Wakana's high note and Kajiurago is better.
Ongaku - Hikaru did great here! Wakana's is back! She owns her solo part :sohappy:Her higher chorus after the kajiurago bridge was better too
Yume no Daichi - It's pretty! Sounds as good as the one from Consolation live.
Eden - I was amazed that Wakana was able to perform well while she had to walk around waving to the audience!
Mune no yukue - Another song that always been consistent. This time Keiko is not overly do on her solo part which is great!
Alleluia - Perfect! Way better then the one we had (i forgot which event). Actually i thought Wakana will cry on this song which i saw someone mentioned that before. Maybe its not the Budokan lives?

Overall Wakana really impress me, she had been consistent throughout the whole live~ I guess u can notice that I'm a big Wakana fans throughout my review :innocent:

Blue Day
Storia - Not the best one from them but it sounds good too. Love the overture!Love the stars! Love the way Kalafina enter the stage!
Love come Down - This is one of my favourite song, too bad Hikaru wasnt at her best condition ><
Natsu no Ringo - Really love the music, especially the flute. It sounds so rich! Its great that Wakana did the part which Hikaru was singing in Red Moon live.
I have a dream - Its nice and calm, i always enjoy the Kajiurago bridge in this song.
Seventh Heaven - Perharps this was the best version i had heard so far. Wakana and Keiko both doing great here!
Mirai - Its good, despite many people didnt really like this song, I used to love this song more than Hikaru Furu XD

Hanataba - Hikaru is doing better in Consolation live, but Wakana's kajiurago part sounds much better this time, she didnt sounds airy like she did in Consolation live
Kimi no Gin no Niwa - Love it! Not the best version but it sounds much better with the live band and string.
Manten - One of my all time favourite song! Love the graphics shows on the screen. They did a great job here!
To the Beginning - The best version i had heard so far! Wakana sounds less straining on her part :TdT:
Numquar Vincar - Wow! This was probably the second best moment throughout the whole live! Love the long piano solo, this song is superb! It reminds me of Frenetic - live version (not the music but the mood of the song)
Magia Quattro - This was the third best moment to me! Love the way they appear and moving to the stage! But sorry to say i feel the dance doesnt work here...i always hope they will add something new on the long instrumental part such as some kajiurago :plz:Hikaru did great here! She seems to performing better on her lower register on both Red and Blue live.
Destination Unknown - Awesome! Hikaru was doing great too! She is holding the last note till the end this time, pretty amazing!
Signal - Awesome x2! Wakana did better on the Kajiurago in this version!
Ongaku - Awesome x3! This song was flawless to me, as good as the one on Red day!
Heavenly Blue - Awesome to the MAX! Love the little surprise here! Wakana's harmony seems a bit weak here, but her main part was awesome! Same goes to the Kajiurago part! This was the best moment of the live to me!
Snow Falling - It seems like they are going back to the original tempo. It was beautiful, i do hope they did the same arrangement like the one on After Eden.
Symphonia - This was the best version i had heard so far! A flawless performance! Thanks to the String :w00t:Wakana sounds perfect to me! This was my top favorite Kalafina song!
Red Moon - Not the best as Hikaru was not at her best condition. Still a solid performance.
Believe - I like the one from Red Day better, Wakana sound a bit tired here XD
Sprinter - Love it! Its a great song to end the live :dote:

Statisfied! Really enjoy the whole setlist of Blue Day, some little surprise by the girls and again the Numquar Vincar!!!!!

Love the overture!Love the stars! Love the way Kalafina enter the stage!
- It was lovely watching the girls come up one by one, Wakana's smile melted my heart :plz:
This was basically one of the major reasons why Blue Day stood out a lot more for me. The girls coming in one by one along with the overture and the backdrop had this feeling of "this is it!" compared to Red Day. It honestly gave me goosebumps. I can't even describe the feeling I had - I was so, so proud of the girls at that moment.

OK, thoughts about Blue Day:
Storia - Good start with the girls raising up, that was cool. For once the vocal introduction doesn't bug me, I usually don't care for it. Rest of the song sounds great. Hikaru is already sounding better than she did at the start of Red in my opinion.
Love Come Down - That Keiko sass. Girls look like they're having fun. I see the screen at the back still has lag. Singing sounds good.
Natsu no Ringo - Initial note from Wakana seems a little off to me, but she fixes that. More of based Rie. Singing after the start part sounds great from all three. Camerawork on Rie's final segment is garbage.
I have a dream - Wakana sounding amazing. Bridge is great.
Seventh Heaven - That Keiko open . All three sound great here, although that Wakana :touched:. So amazing. Also why are you singing with the mic above your nose, Hikaru?
Mirai - Performance sounds on form. Song still sucks.
Hanataba - So happy they included this. Sounds good, accordion solo is awesome, as are the vocals right afterwards.
Kimi no Gin no Niwa - Ahhh those smiles are super cute. Kind of misleading really considering the implications of the song itself. Nice Wakana right into the solo, Hikaru sounds good here too.
Manten - They actually showed the strings for a little bit, for once, that's nice. Very little issue with any singing here, other than one really audible breath from Wakana right before the instrumental part, but I can let that slide. Keiko solo was grand.
To the beginning - Pretty cool with the girls going down the different staircases at the start. I've never liked that squeaky 'shinjite' part and once again it bugs me a little here. Keiko's voice sounds really rather grand here.
Numquam Vincar - Ah, they didn't focus on the girls walking off for the whole time this time round, that's good. Some truly impressive keyboard work. That lighting when the drums kick in is fantastic, also wow, that violin solo is something else, and then that guitar solo :plz:. Numquam has always been one of my favourite pieces from Madoka and this performance was god-damn amazing. That audience cheer as well.
Magia[quattro] - Hah oh wow, appearing in the middle of the crowd like that, how cool. God damn I love the blue dresses, they're amazing in every way. I kind of want one. I prefer regular Magia to quattro, but this performance was certainly on form. That super-long Hikaru note was grand too, she's definitely better on this day. That dansu though during the solo segments, although it's kind of amusing that once the guitar solo started up they all just turned round and watched in awe. Overall a fantastic performance.
Destination Unknown - Heh, the crowd cheering from the initial guitar alone. Hikaru sounds really great here, deshoooooooooooooooooooo~. Lighting is rather cool too. Keiko solo sounds wonderful. Lighting during the solo is great but would've been nice to show more of the actual guitar-work, you know. All three girls standing there with the jets going is super cool though. I might have to pirate a copy of this just so I can take screencaps for wallpapers :goodjob:.
Signal - Those aahh's. THAT WAKANA JACKET :omgz:. I don't think I've ever seen someone take a jacket off in such an alluring way before. Keiko vocals with the Wakana scat is gorgeous. Accordion solo slides in smoothly, which is really nice. I don't like the way it starts in the studio recording but in both the Consolation live and here it doesn't come across as jarring. The actual solo isn't as good as the Consolation one though, sadly, although the song overall sounds a lot better. Korenaga showing off :ohoho:. That Wakana scat again, still sounding beautiful. Added instrumental segment is lovely, and Keiko pointing at the camera like that :imdead:. I'm really hoping they play Signal in October, I love it.
Ongaku - That shift into Ongaku :goodjob:. Keiko's expressions during her initial solo vocal . Girls rocking out during the solo is cute as hell, although still not enough showing of Korenaga. At least Konno gets to show off. Wakana solo sounds grand, around the same as the Red Day one.
Heavenly Blue - Nice transition. Girls put on a good performance but I still don't really care for the song. I think after seeing this and their performance of it at Animelo 2014 I don't hate it any more, but I'm still indifferent and it's still easily one of their weakest songs. Nice BRUE.
snow falling - It's nice, but the song is boring as usual. Never have liked it.
symphonia - That symphooooniiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~. In fact, most of the song in general. Singing is on top form from all three girls. Great performance.
red moon - The girls rising up in front of the giant red moon was awesome, although I do wonder why red moon wasn't on Red Day, although I can't complain if it meant having Hikaru in better shape, although she does falter a little in her initial solo segment. Wakana and Keiko sound wonderful though and aside from that one instance, Hikaru is fine too. Finale is good, although maybe not up to scratch with the Red Moon 2010 live. As with Signal I really hope they play this in October, it's kind of my dream song to hear live.
believe - Why is this here twice. Girls are on form but the song is still shit.
Sprinter - Very start sounded a little odd, but no other problems. Them all running around smiling is always nice to see. Grand job though, really good stuff. Probably not quite as good as the Alleluia finale from Red despite the fact I far prefer Sprinter as a song, but that Alleluia was beyond perfect. Seems kind of a dick move to use Ring Your Bell as the credits theme after they cut it :glower:. That Keiko sprint across the stage, heh, plus pushing Wakana forwards :ohoho:.
LIVE THE BEST Documentary - That giant fluffy coat Keiko was wearing when doing her vocal check at the start :omgz:. Practising dansu, talking about stuff I can't understand. Maiyaiya~. Keiko practising as she's walking presumably to the stage for their performance. As expected they started dismantling their outfits as soon as they were off stage to get ready for the switch. Hikaru/Keiko high five. Hah, the girls being super sneaky getting behind the crowd. Nobody suspects a thing. Showing off Hikaru rocking the hell out, god she's so cute when she does that. I was kind of expecting some tears but the girls seemed pretty composed from what they showed.

The people at SMEJ really are idiots. Idiots at business. Uploading live videos to YouTube is an investment to keep fans interested in the long term. Especially international fans. See why the American music industry is doing so well?

Want Kalafina to be relevant (and keep remaining relevant) globally? Apparently they don't. Because all they can think about is the short-term revenue they'll get from sales.

I've seen that live: I've set my youtube-dl routine to download the whole channel, but at 6/22, it stopped: content blocked. Ah. Okay.

Wonder if there is a guy paid full-time only to browse Youtube looking for their protected contents. That can't be the work of a bot: it would had been blocked instantly after upload.

Actually I think they just want to keep full control on their artists. They don't care about spreading popularity and so on: I'm sure they are thinking "we will do whatever needed to boost their career only if we decide to".

Wow my uploads were deleted quickly :/ Took so long to upload them too

@Kugayama strange enough. I once tried to upload a Kalafina MV on YouTube, and as soon as the uploading process was over, I checked the video page to find it already blocked.

Thank you for the Oricon figures! :)

@magicmagiamahou that was you behind this? Thank you for the effort :V:
