Kalafina in Budokan 28 February - 01 March 2015

A few that really made an impact on me in no particular order:
Mune no Yukue - amazing. Simply amazing. I think HIKARU sounds great here. WAKANA's harmonies have always been my favorite part in the live performances of this song "let me roll in the river of life, the river of life, a-a-ahhh". The final three descending tones when her voices gets deep? Oh my goodness. I know ive said her lower register is nothing special before, but when placed in the background scene, MMPH! and I'm glad that she finally is singing the full line "Mune no Yukue would terashite" (and also at the other two choruses), as opposed to just singing "terashite". Correct me if im wrong, but I remember in the past concerts, she only sang the latter.

Natsu no Ringo- the instruments were so rich, and the collective power really delivered a nostalgic feeling the song intends to create. Was there a Live flutist? I'm also happy about WAKANA singing the "fue no ne ga" part! Those are the transitions they should be doing more of when there are overlaps!!! But overall, the instrumental plus the vocals were an amazing combination and symphony.

Love come down- HIKARU sounds like she's really straining in here... The kind of straining one develops after overworking his or her voice after long singing sessions or using too much power.

Snow falling - I didn't listen past the first 20 seconds, because I am sorry; im tired of listening to this rendition ive and over again!! Come on!!!!! :( if it was different this time around, someone please tell me lmao :XD:

I have a dream - again, like natsu no Ringo, excellent instrumentals. Nothing more to say!

Nope, she's always sang the whole line.

Was there a Live flutist?

Sounds like it.

I personally prefer the original arrangement. It's nice to hear their raw voices, but the slower arrangement, with strings and Yuriko is better.

@Atlas Star : According to this video from the After Eden DVD, Keiko does sing the full lines (I had to check lol I was curious if that was indeed the case or not).
EDIT: Ninja'd by Kowz

I'm not gonna go through them all individually, but I do have a few things to say about some of the tracks I've heard so far:

Te to te to me to me: Keiko does sing this song a bit differently, but it wasn't too cutesy like I was expecting. I do like the live instruments in this as well.

ARIA: Ooh, Hikaru. She didn't sound very consistent to me. Like, she wasn't super terrible, but you could tell where there was straining and such. :uh..: Wakana and Keiko were pretty good in this song (but I will forever still say my favorite refrain version was the one with Maya).

Lacrimosa: Ahh, I was so happy with the performance. One of my favorites.

I have a dream: Loved Wakana here. She sounded pretty smooth, except for a few spots, but overall loved this performance and so glad these performances had a live flute.

Love Come Down: There is that kinda strange cutesy/nasally voice from Keiko.... Didn't like how she dropped into her (chest voice might be word?) on "image" and "damage" for example. Not my favorite performance of this song, sadly.

Overall, Hikaru did not sound that great, like others said and I found that she was indeed better on Blue Day. So far, I'm really a fan of Te to te to me to me (though probably not of the dancing when I see it), I have a dream, Lacrimosa, and Mune no Yukue. Haha, I'm definitely not listening to this in order. :XD:

@Hatouchan and @bevan , at the concert was Hikaru having problems on both days, or just Red day?

Can't wait for my copy to arrive tomorrow, looking forward to enjoying it regardless of any singing issues :stars:

Both days, but she did better on blue day.

Seconded - blue day was alot better for her. Hikaru's weak showing wasn't that all obvious in songs that dont really go high. Her voice tailed off right at the end of Mirai's first stanza...

Just curious, when you went to for the FJC live way back in the beginning of this year, did Hikaru sound this bad?

Not at all.

Seconded too. HIkaru sounded fine at the FJC Live. Fingers crossed for Oct's Far on the water Tour :cheer:

be happy with this for now (unless I didn't see someone else's post)

Thanks for the repost - I deleted the album soon after listening and I was frantically trying to recover it. That now-private link I posted is.. :touched:

I haven't found ARIA on your link @wat11, then I tried Sprinter. Glad Hikaru's sounding not so bad on it.

If people are looking to find the DVD's cheaper, I found them cheaper on eBay

As for the blurays, I couldn't find much over $100

I still want these, but my TV/blu-ray player setup is a bit temporary atm and I'm low on storage space. It's not as though CDJapan will run out in the next month or two, and as nice as the first pressing poster is, it's not a deal-maker/breaker when I have very little wall space to hang it on! The reactions in this thread are pretty positive though, which is good to hear. I'll stick it on my 'to buy later' list for now I guess.

Got my Red and Blue Day BDs today along with two posters. :ohoho:
I'm hopefully gonna watch Red Day tomorrow...too tired today:waa:...I need to be mentally prepared for this. :TdT:

Okay, just finished Blue Day. Hikaru did not sound as bad as people have been saying. But here is my review, in a spoiler, since it is long. heh. Enjoy! (Oh, and if you haven't already noticed I am a Konno fangirl, so I will be oogling over the string a lot during these lives.)
The Best Blue Day

Overture –Storia: I think they all did well, Hikaru is better than what people have been saying, I think so anyways. At least in this song. I like storia, Wakana is great, Keiko too obviously. Love Rie’s playing, and the Konno quartet! (Sorry, just love Konno so much!)

Love come down: I love this song. I remember the first time hearing it in the car on the way to my friend’s house. It was glorious. I got chills. I don’t think Hikaru is annoying in this song at all. She is better, but maybe a little shaky. I love this song, as I said before. It has a good rhythm and feel, like you want to dance to it, but not sure how. I don’t think it has a sexy feel at all, it has more of a Eastern feel to it. Love Konno of course.

Natsu no Ringo: Love this song too. Rie’s playing is amazing. Love her. Wakana is amazing, love when the piano plays with her singing. Hikaru is maybe a little loud in this song, but still beautiful.

I have a dream: I really really enjoyed this song. Loved when it played at the end of the Anime Boston doc. Wakana is amazing, this is why I keep saying she is not bad at all, like some people are saying. She is still amazing in lives. This song was truly amazing. I noticed that Wakana was the only one not wearing a necklace. Heh

Seventh heaven: This was really lovely. I love this song, of course. Being one of my favorite Kalafina songs, this was great live. Hikaru was lovely, Wakana sounds like the recorded version, which is awesome, Keiko great as always.

Mirai: I enjoy this song, I think it has great energy too. I like Credens though, so this song was great. Hikaru was maybe a little shaky, Wakana was awesome. The strings were amazing.

Hanataba: Did not really like this song at first, but it grew on me and I am glad it did, since both lives I’ve seen of it now are awesome. The live accordion is great. I like how the light comes over them when each of them is singing their part. I can’t even imagine playing an accordion, let alone live, but it really is something how they can play on one side and know what notes to play on the other. Loved this live.

Kimi no Gin no Niwa: Wakana is great here. I think all three of them are. Love the strings, of course. Hikaru is really good I think. I love it when they smile during this song, it really fits. Wakana’s dress kind of looks like the clock parts above, I have noticed. This song gave me chills. Love it. I liked at the end when they went up the stairs as well.

Manten: I really like this song, so of course liked the live. The magic circle in the background is cool. The strings are awesome, as always. Hikaru was really powerful in this song. She got better I think. Wakana and Keiko were powerful as well. Wakana nails all her high parts, it’s amazing. Keiko tapping her foot during her part was cool. I do that sometimes listing to this song, and always sing her part. I kind of like in the recording part where Wakana puts a retard at the end, but here she doesn’t a whole lot, still like it though.

To the beginning: I like the energy in this song, Hikaru really does a good job I think. Wakana as well. I’ve always loved her singing though. I like Keiko’s side turn. Heh Wakana does get a little shaky, but it is a fast song, so that is to be expected I think. I would get shaky as well. I always sing Keiko’s part towards the end of this song as well. Wow, Wakana before the “down to zero we go” and after. Purely awesome.

Numquar vicar: I was surprised this song was in the setlist, and how it started, with the slow piano part. Love Konno’s face like he’s purely listening to the piano. He is so awesome. Heh But so is Sakurada and all of the band members. Then the strings start, and wow. That weird violin though, but it kind of fits this song. And I noticed they finally show the other band members, like the drums, and Jr. and Koichi, which they haven’t all that much so far. Love the shot of Jr. and Koichi while Koichi is playing, which is amazing. I will have to show this to my dad, since I always talk about him with him, since he is a guitar fan. Loved it.

Magia {Quattro}: I did not notice the Japanese flag until now. That’s really cool. Everyone was surprised when they came in through the crowd. Love the start of this, where everyone is clapping and then goes silent when the red falls on Kala. I don’t really like this version of this song, but this is really awesome. Hikaru is really powerful. I don’t really like their dresses though. They’re kind of a little much for me. But that’s beside the point. Keiko’s creepy voice hehe. The red really fits the song. Hikaru’s fierce face. Heh I actually like the weird dance that they did too. I’ve always loved Keiko’s solo part in this song.

Destination unknown: I did not like this song at first, but it grew on me. I love to listen to it now while working out, it gets me going. Heh Hikaru has a big of a shaky start, but then owns the song I think. It seems like a hard song to sing live. I do like Keiko’s head piece though. And Hikaru’s sash. Keiko’s part is great, even though she sings it a little different, like with more umph. Heh I liked her “deshou” part with the shakiness at the end. It was fitting. Wow, the lights, I had to look away, it reminded me of the Lindsey Stirling concert where I had to look away even though I didn’t want to. The black and white screen was pretty cool in this song. They all did a fantastic job. Hi’s long note at the end, wow.

Signal: I don’t like this song, but I do like it live. Hikaru’s part is so weird. I like how it starts it them together. Hikaru really does a good job though. Wakana’s part is love though. When Wakana takes off her jacket lol. Keiko’s part is awesome, I like this part a lot in this song, but the rest I don’t like. I liked it more after ACen, but still don’t listen to it that often. You can tell what Wakana said about signal being hard to sing, with her face. The accordion was awesome. Koichi’s weird dance. You could tell they were having fun though.

Ongaku: I personally still like this song. Keiko said it was her favorite song to sing live. I think they know it really well, and own it. This live was no different. When Hikaru knelt down, that was pretty great. I think they all do well in this song. I love love love Konno’s part in this song in the lives, I don’t know why Yuki didn’t put it in the recorded version. Wakana’s part, wow. That gave me chills.

Heavenly blue: I have not heard this song in awhile, so it was kind of nice. But still don’t like Hikaru’s part. Like Wakana’s though, it is actually better live though, kind of like with signal with me. I like it when they go to the edge of the stage where the rails are and look into the crowd. Wakana’s Kajiurago part, the whole thing actually is great. I like this part a lot in the original song too. I like the part after that too. Wakana does still sweat a lot more than the others. She still says “buru” at the end, which I find funny, since they have gotten so better with the English parts.

Snow falling: I also don’t listen to this often, unless it is winter, because here in Wisconsin it is winter most of the time. Heh But I do like it. I like it better than Hikari furu. The snow falling in the background was very cool. (I know I like to comment on the stage when I should be focusing on the girls. But I think it affects them as well in some part.) Hikaru is a little shaky in some parts, but otherwise great. I think they are all great in this song. I watched the Kara no Kyoukai movie with this song playing where it was just mainly falling snow, so it really is something.

Symphonia: I quite enjoy listening to this song. Keiko really shines here. Yay Rie’s back! Watching this just makes me forget about all my pain and anxiety, and it’s really awesome how music can do that. This song had a really nice feel to it, after all the upbeat ones. It sort of is upbeat, but not as much. Seeing each of them smiling during the instrumental part was awe inspiring. It’s like they’re taking in the energy, and that is giving them the power to sing so beautifully.

Overture~ red moon: This overture sounds more similar to a KnK one, but I like it. I loved this song live at ACen, it really was something. Is that Yuri Kasahara in the overture? I did not like this song at first, but it really grew on me. Wow, when the rose up and the red moon the background. It gave me chills. I do like these dresses better. The gold and black are great together on them. Hikaru’s bracelet, I kind of like it, but it looks heavy. Heh I love Hikaru’s dress though. This song was really powerful and I love it, even though it’s long. Great!

Believe: I like this song, I don’t think it’s as terrible as people say. Wakana owns this song. She’s really pretty. I really like it, probably one of the only ones. I find myself getting this song stuck in my head during the day, for no reason. It’s a good song to tap my foot to, as I was doing watching this live. Loved it.

Sprinter: I love this song, even if there’s no Maya, I think each of the girls do really well. Especially Hikaru. This was one of my favorite KnK songs. I loved Keiko’s part where she went to each of the girls. Keiko was maybe a little loud, but other than that, no complaints. Though Hikaru did get a little out of breath at the end. Then she was better.

Blue day was awesome. I think maybe they were all a little nervous because it was Budokan. But I think receiving a standing ovation was deserved. I found it interesting that they used Ring Your Bell as the credits song, when they cut it out. But all in all it was great. Going to watch Red Day tonight.

Hello everybody:hi: It has been quite a while:desksweat:

Got my copies on release date!:sohappy: Can’t believe how fast they were here! I expected them to arrive at the end of this week at the earliest!

So, I just finished watching red day (haven’t watched blue day yet). I don’t want to discuss the vocal performances here. After all, the audio has already leaked and thus it has already been discussed to a certain degree. Rather, I want to address an issue I personally have with the direction, namely the very rare presence of the musicians on screen. I know, other people might think differently about that matter, but for me the front band has always been a very important and substantial part of a (proper) Kalafina live performance. I really enjoyed how they cut back and forth between the girls and the band in previous releases, given that I am equally interested in both of them. In this case however the film crew seems to have decided that the girls are the one and only stars of the show(s). They practically never cut to the musicians during the songs; sometimes not even when they are on solo. Rather they prefer to show us their dances (if you can even call it that) in full glorious lengths or (even better) them standing around doing nothing except being pretty as always. The only times we get to see the musicians in close up is when they are playing the instrumental piece meanwhile the girls are off stage, and when they have their “Ongaku” solos. The only exception to this rule is maybe Rie Akagi, which gets shown a bit more. I just think that this is a missed opportunity, especially because we even got full strings and you can only get a glimpse of them in the background behind the girls. Satou Kyouichi got only about 3-4 close-up shots during the entire red day concert and Jr. virtually disappears from the stage completely. It’s so obvious how they only filmed the musicians when there was nothing else around to point their cameras at without it looking like total crap in the finished product. The worst example of this practice we get at the beginning of said instrumental piece: Sakurada begins to play; meanwhile our girls begin to slowly walk in order to leave the stage. You don’t see Sakurada before the camera has finally finished following the utahimes to their final disappearence in the dark behind the stage. They are just walking out, nothing fancy or overly choreographed. Piano is for losers: Walking like real ladies, this has to be admired, right?:stupidtable::voodoo: Just completely missed my interests!:blood:

Yeah, sorry for the ranting, but I just had to let it out. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the girls, but the fact that these lives had strings was still one of the main reasons why I really wanted to own these BDs, and I have to admit that I also wanted to see them, not only hear.

Otherwise I really enjoyed watching this blu-ray and I'm looking forward to the other one! The performances are mostly great. It was just this one thing that just annoyed me a little bit but constantly until the end.
Sorry for all this negativity. I hope this won’t be such big of a problem for you as it is for me. You might also think I'm just completely exaggerating, and that's ok. Maybe I'm just a “musicistophile” so let’s leave it at that.:V:

Sorry to hear that. I think it's important matter. The musicians really deserve more attention because they do hard and great job at the same time. Moreover, it become more important to give them attention when they are the usual familiar members.

I haven't found ARIA on your link @wat11, then I tried Sprinter. Glad Hikaru's sounding not so bad on it.
You need to search "Aria" along with whatever is already there in order to find it (I know it's on there). The only ones that aren't on there to my knowledge are Alleluia (yes, I searched both under this and Areruya), Believe from Blue Day, and Ongaku from Blue Day.

+ when the fairy tale ends made me smile.

with a hope about Wakana I listened to hikari furu but of course the screech is there.
