Back at the hotel now. The actual concert ran from about 1:30pm to about 8:40pm.

I'd first like to cover Kalafina's own set - it was the best Kalafina performance that I have seen live (others were Animelo Summer Live 2011, FictionJunction CLUB LIVE at Zepp Tokyo, YK vol. #10 and the 26 August show at Otodama Sea Studio), and the 4 songs tonight were probably better than the best 4 songs of any particular recorded live show.

I don't want to take anything away from the acoustic live at Otodama Sea Studio, but I found the vocal performances tonight close to perfect and better than the studio versions (Keiko's final note was perfect, Wakana did a slightly abrupt end to Hikari Furu but it was still good). There was a sense of perfect vocal control without strain throughout.

The guitar during the chorus of Believe could have been a bit quieter, but otherwise the backing didn't detract from the performances at all. The videography was also wonderful, putting some of the released lives to shame.

Kalafina were the third to last act before GranRodeo and May'n.

Other highlights - JAM Project's first Animax Musix performance and their members' solo performances, ELISA singing Mononoke Hime (I would have had the opening chord announce the song rather than ELISA's singing because the audience reacted loudly to her opening phrase), GranRodeo with secret guest Flow, a four female voice version of Minori Chihara's Paradise Lost. Plus Nagi Yanagi was great to hear live, including "Crossroad".

AG7 had Himeka as a pre-recorded sound and video track - I wonder if she was unable to get a visa for the performance or if it was just too expensive to go from Canada to Japan and return for one song?

Overall, the atmosphere at this year's Animax Musix was better than the day 2 of 2013 that I attended. No longer were cameras taken on entry, the friendliness of staff really showed, and by having merchandise sales from 9am (with queue handling so fast that having joined it about 8:40 am I had time to go inside the arena to see and photograph the flowers, get interviewed by a video crew (with the same cameraman as last year, who remembered me), get my photo taken with a mascot , get a transfer put on my hand, look at the Gundams on display, buy a copy of Hanako to Anne OST and still was back outside around 11:15am and had time for lunch at a Korean restaurant accross the road before being let back into the arena around 12 noon.

PS, Kalafina's talk session went well and the audience kept quiet for their quieter songs and participated well with light sticks and polite applause after the vocals had finished.

A PS on the merchandise, the huge 2000 yen badge looked to difficult to transport home to be worth getting, inside there were past Kalafina concert programmes, the 5 year history book and one kind of t-shirt on sale, plus a general CD sales section had Kalafina singles and albums, RHH OSTs and Hanako to Anne OST1.

Oh man I'd have loved to have seen Light My Fire. The first jpop song I ever liked was Kotoko's Re-sublimity so I have a special place for her even if I don't like some of her music.

May'n x JAM Project sounds amazing too, also May'n covering Komm, Susser Tod :omgz:.

Pity Kalafina's set list was frankly the worst combination of songs, consisting of two songs I don't like, one that I didnt like but grew on me eventually (Alleluia) and one that I didnt care for until I got to see it live a couple years after release (Hikari Furu). Good if they sung well but some better songs would be much longed for.

It sucks that they only sang one cover, and it was a collaboration. Oh wll, it mite b cool.

May’n
39. Komm, süßer Tod〜Amaki Shi yo, Kitare (Cover of Komm, süßer Tod, komm selge Ruh)

Oh god no :barf:

I don't know this 'Light My Fire' song so I have to give it a listen first to decide should I be excited for this cover or not. Interesting how they choose to perform Hikarifuru and Alleluia instead of Kimi no Gin no Niwa and misterioso. Not that I'm complaining. Will they broadcast all the song? Iirc in they left out 1 song in Animax Musix 2010. If that's the case I hope they'll cut Hikarifuru/heavenly blue (although it isn't likely). believe is still not good but I want to see how they handle it live. Another Alleluia live is always welcomed.

Thanks for the setlist and report!

Gosh I *cannot* imagine Kalafina covering Light My Fire.... Kotoko's voice is great for screaming, but Kalafina's.... :omg:

Still, it seems like an interesting take on things, would love to hear it soon! (Hope the entire Animax Musix will be uploaded online soon!)

I'm ok with Kotoko's Light my Fire, but I really wonder how would Kalafina sing this...O_O. It's just....quite unimaginable for me..Orz. Whether it's Hikaru, Keiko or Wakana, the mood of the song must be completely different from the original. It's interesting how would it be.

Out of topic...(i. e. not relate to Yuki)

P. S. 1 Is it "Komm, süßer Tod" from 'The end of Evangelion' (the one that came to mind mine when I see the name 'the world is tumbling down' in FZ ost2..lol) or there is another Japanese anime that uses this song? If it's that one...for me, it's as unimaginable as Kalafina's version of Light my fire..lol.
P.S. 2 Suzumura got his own session and even a duet for fan selection... Can't help thinking that if Maaya was also there and they had a duet....TwT. Always long for their duet since I knew that they got married..lol.

I would've thought it'd be THAT Komm, süsser Tod. I don't know of any others, at least.
