Hello
This is my first post: review..um, I must warn you that although I love each Kalafina member unconditionally, deeply and insanely. I feel the most connected to Hikaru. So of cousre My review is a bit swayed by what I would consider a Hikaru centered album.(A dream come true for me? Yes.)
Eden: I think the song is beautiful. I would consider it "epic" in a soft way, not Red moon epic as far as intensity, but epic in the refreshing -brand new morning- kind of feeling. Almost like someone is opening their eyes and breathing for the first time and the awe inspiring feeling that comes with that.( B+)
Sandpiper - Is my second favorite. Loving Hikaru's smooth vocals in the beginning, deep and intriguing. Love the emotion. Keiko definitely has her back in the best way. And Wakana brings it home without stealing the show. Its grand what can I say (A+)
Kugatsu: Excellent. It's simple, yet mysterious to an extent. I can hear a small bit of michiyuki and Natsu no ringo. Loving the "cuteness" of Hikaru's voice. (A-)
In your eyes: Ok this one reminds me of a video game, like Spiral the Dragon (Love that game) -weird analogy right? LOL. Um, I like it a lot, not feeling the constant (in your eyes) when Wakana takes over. But over all it's good and joyful. It won't be on replay as much as others.(B)
Destination Unknown: MY FAVORITE WOW-WHOA!! Damn. I'm speechless, and have been for 24 hours. I've been looping this all day and haven't gotten tired of it. There are many highlights for me in this. The first is the "sexiness" of the melody, something about it screams HOT! to me. Both girls sound thier best. Can I just say that I love Keiko and Hikaru in songs together!! (Hoshi no uta, Progressive, Magia, and others) They complement each other really well. I really like the "hiccup thing" that Hikaru does with her vocals at certain parts in this. And of course the end is awesome how they over lap their vocals and verses. The repitition doesn't bother me in the slightest because there's too much I appreciate about the song I hardly even notice that it's repetitive (Makes it last longer so I can't complain) In love with this (A+++)
-side note: I think the first time I heard Hikaru go deep was at the very end of Hoshi no Uta...and I was floored.
Neverending: Love it.( I hear the fiction Forest in this too :) I've never heard Hikaru in this tone before and I'm like "are you trying to make me fall for you deeper than I already have?" Without her opening this song would have been weak to me, because the chorus is a little...um...yeah. But the "Never ending" part put aside I'm loving it beginning, middle, and the end is phenomenal (lalala), there is something sad about it- and I like that. (A)
Kotonoha: It's pretty. I'm a fan of their more intense ballads with a beat-y/powerful/intricate background melodies- (Seventh heaven, silence of the night sky, etc) so softer ones are hard to swallow sometimes. But this was nice (B-)
Magnolia: Ok (gulp) I'm going to put myself out there and admit that...I am an Ambient/Electronic (and all electronic sub categories) lover it's my favorite genre of music. (Lover of Adore, Kylie, Oblivious etc) so I really appreciated this song. Actually I like this because it carries it's self with a bit more seriousness than let's say...fantasia, or love come down. I like serious. But I def. see strobe lights, and people dancing in cages with glow sticks as others making out in the corner. Do I like it? Hell yes. (and I don't even go to parties LOL) (A).
Mune no Yukue: *wipes brow* I've went through the struggle with this song. The sample had me ready to write it off the potential play list into the "I listen to it once a year" pile of songs. For the sample I did agree with the lion king talk (and I like the Lion King music...just not in Kalafina). But since then I've re-listened and it's very good, losing the lion king effect and beginning to stand alone. I'm still getting use to the chorus but over all the songs fresh and beautiful. Not on my top ten list but not a disappointment either. *fetching it out of the forgotten pile* (B+)
Symponia. I love it. And I love what they've done to it (intensify= drooling). It's um... nostalgic of older Kalafina stuff (what exactly? not sure but it just speaks to the origins to me.) (A)
The Albums great. top songs (Destination Unknown, Sandpiper, Magnolia, Never ending, Symphonia, Kugatsu, )
