I agree with Nick Hunter, She didn't go professional on this song, she just did the part because Miss Kajiura thought that her voice fits the song to make it good. Sure, Kasahara can do it much better, but Wakana did a good job for such a hard piece. It sounded good, and that's just enough for me. I congratulate her for taking up the challenge!

I have it! It is in my possession. hehe I love voyagers so far, and I loved Yakosuko. The only two I've listened to so far, since I am at work. I'll have to have a better listen when I get home. But I can tell already I'm going to love it. I love the booklet scans and the case. hehe :sohappy:

Wakana has been doing small opera style parts in many songs so far. But Materialize clearly showed her limits in that aspect. It's a difficult song, so considering that she did a really good job, but overall it was so-so. Absolutely no comparison to the "professional" version by Kasahara and even Yuriko managed the really high parts a lot better. As the song continues the performance got worse and worse as their stamina got less. It started hurting my ears and I was relieved when the song was finally over.

Concerning the improvisations, if I remember correctly Yuki Kajiura has stated that she only writes the notes for the violin, without dynamics etc. She leaves that up to Konno, so in a way he is improvising all the time. ^^
These are my thoughts exactly. After a while, Wakana sounded like a chicken or something. :uh..:
But she didn't do badly... I just think Yuriko's voice was much better suited for it. :/

OH, WELL.

OH, WELL.

First of all, Kasahara is a professionally trained opera singer. Wakana (just like Kaori) is a lyrical soprano, which is far different from an operatic soprano. IMO Wakana did okay in Materialise, but I just didn't think her voice fit well since it called for operatic, not lyrical. Well, it was Yuki's call in the end, so it's just my opinion and I still loved it.

Yuriko - she majored in music in college and I'm not sure exactly what her specialty was, but obviously she is versatile - a composer and singer at the least. Yuriko doesn't strike me as a lyrical soprano, but she is excellent at effectively backing up many songs because its a fuller soprano sound (not as clear as lyrical, which stands out more).

Anyway, all in all the girls are a very nice blend. I'm very sure Materialise will pop up again, and hopefully it'll mature more every time they sing.

As for Konno "improvising all the time" I disagree because if you listen to a majority of the lives so far, he hardly ever deviated from the way he's played the music. He rocks for sure, but I would just like to hear him improvise a bit when he has his solo parts.

Okay, now that I have listened to the whole thing, here is my short review. I am very pleased with these cds. I love the mix of all them, and there seems to be more use of violin, which makes me really happy since I love the violin. heh But I will talk about the ones that touched me the most. Here we go.

The World I listened to in the car, and it sounded awesome. I actually had road rage during it, or I at least wanted to go faster. heh Liminality and In the Land... were also amazing. Liminality sent chills down my spine. So does Salva Nos, which has been one of my favorite songs for a long time. (Kind of wish Canta Per Me had been on there, but oh well.)

All of the Yuuka songs were great. Especially Seiya and Yakosoku. I loved how everyone sang in Seiya, and it almost made me cry. Everlasting Song also had that effect. It was so beautiful. I love this version almost more than the original.

The originally Emily songs were pretty well done. Especially Forest and I reach for the sun. And the image theme of Xenosaga is breathtakingly beautiful. L.A. is probably one of my favorites on these cds. It's kind of different from the original, which is good. I loved this song since the first second I started listening to it.

I knew already that the My-Hime songs were awesome, especially Mezame and Himeboshi. I love the use of different instruments from the originals.

voyagers and darklore I had never heard before this album, and I love both songs. now I want to hear the originals. And I never really liked 'open your heart' to be honest, but I did this version. And a farewell song was a good choice for the last track, of course.

I love how they keep the cheering to a minimum, and the quality is amazing. All in all I loved this album. Can't wait for the next one!

Hope you like my review. :dote:

I know all that, and I did enjoy the song, I was just saying...

:omgz:

My copy came today! I had to pick it up from the post office (because no one was home when the delivery person came), but now it's MINE MINE MINE!!! :anger: [/selfish moment]

I already listened to all the tracks beforehand (:D;;;), but I'm excited about popping in the discs and listening to them on my CD player. (In a somewhat-related-but-off topic thought, I really like the texture of the discs :XD: .)

No offense meant. =P I actually just picked a quote about the thread since no one seemed to have pointed out the whole lyrical vs. operatic thing because of all the vocal comparisons with Wakana, Yuriko, and Kasahara. Anyway, enough said. It's a great song and I wish there's a damn DVD for the whole thing!

As for you folks who got your CD's, good for you! But dammit, where's mine??? I ordered mine from Play-Asia and it took them a few days to process my order and get it shipped out. Grrr.

the image theme of Xenosaga II and MATERIALISE are songs i like the most in the cd (erm opera style) :XD: ,i have appreciated live2 and live4 many times, songs in these lives are beautiful, but new songs have more appeal for me.

So I played disc 2 and my mom listened, too. When she heard Mezame, she said, "This song again?" :ohoho: :XD:
