Anti-spammer registration measures under review

Registration pages will load at reduced speed.

Some large IP ranges from hosting companies have been blocked.

Thanks Sudrien... is there anything that can be done about existing dormant registrations (like the ones that list a website that is obviously advertising)?

I'm having slow loading of forum pages when logged in from 143.92.1.33 - is there anything that could be causing it on the server end?

^ Unbearably slow to load the forum from this address and chat appears to load but shows a completely blank web page.

Changes only effect registration & forum access. If it loads at all, then it is not somthing I can fix.

Block lists updated.

Hey Sudrien, perhaps you can remove my IP from the Block List under ZB Block?

It listed me as a spammer/malicious user. :rain:

Trying limit ZB Block to the registration pages. My apologies.

Nice one Sudrien, the registered users dropped significantly from above 10000 to around 4000. However, it seems that new spambots are being created again, which is evident on the birthdays...

@Sud: CPM member "CruelAngel" says her IP is banned

Hello. I can’t log in to the forums, I get a 403 Forbidden message. Can anyone help me out with this?
Sorry, george, but if you’re referring to my post, it’s more because my IP has been blocked. Sorry, should have mentioned that.

^ Finally...Thanks, Sudrien.

And thanks for your help, george.

After other complaints, registration has been further segregated from logging in.

I hope this will be the end of login issues.

Hi Sudrien, is it practical to offer the main site / forum / chat (or just chat) over https? I think that there is some transparent proxying badly affecting chat that could be bypassed by using https (which Firefox now defaults to where available).

Sorry for the delay in reply.

It is theoretically possible. However, the sites that mess with http may very well block https outright. It also seems the bill for a properly signed certificate will be $65 USD a year per subdomain. If anybody is interested in contributing to the bill, please PM me - but I don't think I'll be footing the additional bill on my own.

Alternatively, /]http://[2607:f298:1:106::649:3a6b]/ is supposedly our IPv6 chat address. If you network supports IPv6, you may want to try that.

I can understand not wanting to spend USD$65 per year just for https access.

Chat works well from home over IPV6 (no time-outs yet).

Are the main site and forums accessible via IPV6?

Now I just have to get work to support IPV6...
