Is it just me or does anyone else think most of Yuki's vocalists become really bad once they're out of her care? See Yuuka's live performances a while back, Makino ruining a great song. Even Kalafina has had some bad moments by itself...

Same thing happened with Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno. After they split in 2003, Maaya's work never captivated me the same way again, though her voice remains perfect.

I guess great composers make a great vocalist even out of a bad one (Makino).

Hm... Kalafina are still in Yuki's care, she composes for them and does rehersals together with them (I guess). Maaya Sakamoto was never a Yuki vocalist so you cant count her in. Also imo Yuuka's performance of Shizuku and Tsukishirube in (I dont remeber which event, but Chiaki was in the same event) was flawless. And talking about Chiaki, she's still performing fine as far as I know even though she hasnt met Yuki for whole 7 years. :XD:

Really? But there's a 2006 version of Anna ni Issho Datta no ni (which actually sounds like a live one), if we count that, See-Saw's current hiatus is nearing five years at most (btw, roughly as long as their first hiatus, if you see what I'm getting at... :ayashii:). And even if they didn't collaborate all this time, we don't know if they keep in contact with each other or not.
And Chiaki's solo career is definitely of high quality. :dote:
Yui Makino, she's far from being an opera singer, but her voice is gentle and soothing. And she has a bunch of good songs in her portfolio, besides those by Yuki. :dote:

it's all about the material. Singers who don't write themselves strongly depend on who writes for them. Among Maaya's solo songs there are quite a number of ones I like (the fave probably being Ame ga Furu). Btw, she and Yoko collaborated again on Macross Frontier.

It's true that Maaya doesn't compose the music to her songs, but she is more well known for being the lyricist to some of her songs.

Example: Everywhere, Magic Number, Kazemachi Jet and many others.
