Reviews/comments on "old" music

But I feel you, I have always considered masterpieces some of the musics aki calls "boring" :XD:
maybe if I listened to them more I'd grow to like them :P

also, it's really just personal preference. While I may not love all .hack// tracks, I adore almost everything on the Madlax, Le Petit Cossette, and Boogiepop OSTs.

^ Is it correct to call the "music inspired by Boogiepop and others" album an OST? The actual Boogiepop Phantom OST is not by Yuki Kajiura.

Listening to Kajiura's past soundtracks, I notice that her music has gotten much ...less quirky? I mean, her she's never really done anything experimental but her recent work is definitely more traditional than it used to be.

Yes I understand you grunty :)

(@sora never done experimental? although, yes, it has become more traditional) Kajiura's experimental fusion of electronica and orchestral elements has dwindled over the years. I think that was what made Kajiura, Kajiura. I was quite young when I listened to her for the first time so it's been a while since I am exposing myself to her music. The way I always felt about the osts was "There are lots of tracks that suck but those that are good are reaaally good." Yuki Kajiura was never consistent in the sense that there was never any consistency in the ost as a whole. Which brings me to...

Xenosaga II!
First meeting and the Opening Theme are really phenomenal. Assault is great too. Strain-Jin's Jin part is really fun. The exact fusion business above-mentioned is prominent in Chase and it's well done.
Here's that those that are good are really good moment : Lamentation and Communication Breakdown. The album is worth only for these tracks.
Here She Comes
is another techno/electronica/orchestral track that is heartwarming and so is UDO-Febronia.
Presentiment-Jr.3 and A Field of Battle-Bitter2 are always a delight to listen to (though the latter is technoish for my taste, in fact I tried to remove the techno beats from the song with Audacity but couldn't.
I am Free and Sakura.4 are emotional orchestral feasts. I enjoy Bitter and some Jr versions as well.

But what is that cacophonous chorus in Fatal Fight? Utter crap. Here He comes, Albedo, latter part of Jr4., Nephilim, R&D Report etc. are filler tracks which I think are in every ost.

Maybe music is for business nowadays, who knows?

listened to second episode of Satoyama today and found an alternate ver of let the children play that doesn't have flute in the intro :tea:

^ for Noir: you can always download stuff you dont have till you get them on CD

Actually, ?all? the Victor soundtracks went out of print long before I started importing stuff. Don't care for American pressings since Geneon apparently messed with the original mastering on some CDs, though I guess even those could be OOP, I never checked.

^ depending on how much one is prepared to pay, there are second-hand copies of many YK soundtracks on amazon.co.jp that one can get using a service like fromjapan.co.jp (and it worked for me getting See-Saw CD albums complete with the spine jackets).

I know, but I'm not into auctions and 2nd hand. (Although when I see something when I'm in a Book Off, I do buy it.)

^ Fair enough, I don't use auctions either, just buying what is on offer as a "buy now" item.

The second-hand Japanese copies can be in extremely good condition, including unopened new copies (one double CD that I bought at Lashinbang was still in its original shrinkwrap even).

Lol. I guess older members which are now almost gone, prefer pretty much yuki's older musics.

For me, her musics pre mai otome are the best. They are kinda dark, elektronical, and worldly at the same time. While the newer ones are... Kinda pop-ish, and she uses almost alwaS the same instrument these day (and melodies, and lyrics)

i really like madlax ost too, and even prefer saeko chiba's song over KnK ost.
Love her everything album.

About madlax, have i mentioned i like cannabinoids? Ambient, bgm music but not really noise only and has actual melody.

Btw, wat11: nephillim in xeno 2 ost ist remake of xeno 1 ost, which is actually a sample music you can find in some hollywood movies

Don't say that...it stings...(I want more quirky!)

Actually, I got the same impression, but I sort of figured it was because the things she's working on are themselves also less quirky. Popular stuff with fairly run-of-the-mill atmospheres like Fate/Zero and SAO seem like they demand soundtracks that are pretty normal, whereas stuff like Bee Train anime and Cosette were weird enough that she could get away with just doing whatever. I really wish she'd play with different kinds of sounds regardless...

^yes that's what I meant by business.

@Maha Jyotiṣa yes I know it's from ost1. Kajiura's used samples a lot, the strangest of which I find is the adhan sounds in Lotus..

^just pray that she manages to nab an interesting anime with a flexible sound director.

^just pray that she manages to nab an interesting anime with a flexible sound director.

It won't happen as long as she continues to work with Aniplex. IIRC, all Aniplex anime she has worked on had the same producers.

Well, she's not "signed" to them or anything so there's always hope for better projects.

Honestly, I hope she's forging strong relations with directors and studios. A big part of her creative freedom during the Bee Train days came from the trust Mashimoto had in her.

I think Mashimoto was the one who said that Kajiura must do an opera (..). I think Aniplex had its share of Yuki's time.
