Yuuka on Sakamichi no Apollon's OST, her track is called 'My Favourite Things' and she sing in English (it's quiet strange for me). Now, isn't she the first after Makino Yui who worked with both Kajiura-sensei and Kanno Youko?

The show was totally under my radar until I heard that Shinichiro Watanabe is the director. Now I consider checking it out for sure. :ayashii:

I think both Yoko kanno and Yuki kajiura has some similar style between them so it is not so strange both have hired the same artists. Too bad Yuki has never hired Origa.

They can do a collab, concert single or something that would be epic :shy:

^ yeah, except I don't think I'd ever recognize Yuuka here, had I not known it. :XD:
Her English is... OK by the general industry standards, I think. Clearer than the case with "It's Only the Fairy-tale" (which I was surprised to learn was sung in English at all :desksweat: ), but not as clear as Kaori, Yuriko or Eri's songs. That all comes with practice, though. :ayashii:

I believe she is using a cutesy voice in this because the character she dubs in the series has a soft-like voice. But tbh I don't know why she decided to do it SO cute, since it seems a bit exaggerated.

Well, it's jazz, and I remember hearing quite a number of female singers sing jazzy songs this way (unless they have deep voices like Tulivu, that is). IIRC even Marylin Monroe used to sing like that, too (although I may be mistaken, since I've never listened to her properly). So this may be sort of shout-out to those times as well, not unexpectable from a team-up like Watanabe/Kanno. :ayashii:

Re:

I had been watching Sakamichi no Apollon since it was first aired, but I realized that Yuuka was the one voicing Ritsuko only recently. Totally didn't recognize her voice.

And by the way, if anyone here who have yet to watch this anime, I highly recommend you give it a go :)

Tbh it's probably what the sound director wanted for the character Yuuka plays.

I'm really enjoying this series too. Yoko Kanno is for me on the same level as Yuki Kajiura in that I've appreciated every soundtrack of hers that I've heard. Ms Kanno certainly does jazz very, very well. That scene at the school festival - ep #7 I think - was fantastic, not just for the emotional aspect (BROMANCE!) but musically.
The way the piano tune went from the Sound of Music to an amprovised jam
had me grinning like an idiot!

I think Yuuka's perfect for the role she's in but I'd love to hear her sing before the series ends... :dote:

^ Totally! That scene in episode 7 had me grinning like an idiot too XD

It was an awesome moment.

It is a great animated series. I am lucky to see it in "simul-cast" on french tv.
However, I was a bit disappointed to here only one song was performed by Yuuka Nanri. She sings with her "seiyuu voice" and so without her usual strong and warm voice. What's a pity :uh..:
The remaining of the OST is great. (as alls from Yoko Kanno).
