Mike Oldfield

Come across Excalibur - one of the unreleased tracks for The Millennium Bell album. Alas, while some tracks were only modified in the final version, others didn't make it there at all. Although part of Excalibur's melody can still be heard at the end of Broad Sunlit Uplands. :ayashii:

Has anybody else watched the Olympics opening ceremony yesterday? Mike played two songs live there (Tubular Bells mix - a part from TB1 and he finale from TB3 - and In Dulci Jubilo), accompanying a whole piece of performance! :sohappy:
I'm unable to seek and link vids now, but if the ceremony's up online already, Mike's performance can be seen shortly after the rings rising and the James Bond part, in a show of children's books and such.
[fanboy]this Olympics opening is SO the best one EVAH[/fanboy] :ohoho: :XD:
I didn't see much of the rest (it was late, and I decided on finding me a recording of the event anyway), but amonbg the things I saw, there was a nice overview of British music (no Elton John or Genesis mentioned, alas :knife: ), plus a London Symphonic Orchestra performance that took a deliberately hilarious tone by involving Rowan Atkinson. :XD:

An a related and provoked thought: whenever the Games take place in Tokyo next time, what are the chances of Yuki showing up like that? :ayashii: :shy:

^i wonder if they are going to play Yuki bgm in these Olympics too like it had happened in Beijing :ohoho:
They played Yuki's bgm in Beijing? :omg:

Yea, it was a track from Tsubasa. I think it was "break the sword of justice" or "black sword".

Have you see the Shadow on the Wall video? There's something hilarious about the fire they are desperately trying to put out in the background. :P

I've not really looked into Mike Oldfield before...I guess he was always there on the music scene somewhere so I never paid much attention. I like that collab with Hayley though - I've always liked her voice for it's 'effortless-ness', for want of a better word. Not many classical style operatic singers do much for me, but I could listen to her sing all day. :shy:

I'm always on the lookout for new things to listen to, so I'll catch up on Mike Oldfield now. Thanks for the links and info, guys! :V:

EDIT: that Excalibur song is great. I can certainly see how fans of Kajiura could dig it, and vice-versa. It wouldn't be out of place on a Fate/x OST now you I think about it... :ayashii:

Hayley Westenra?

Edit: I searched on YT and it is her. I love her voice :dote:

That's how i wish Wakana sounded when she sings high notes.

A new interview! It's confirmed that Mike is finally working on a new album. :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: In another, printed Mojo interview the folks at tubular.net report, he says it will be rockish with minimal use of computers (makes sense, since he's done practically the whole spectrum of computer music the last decade, pioneering even the use of now-so-popular Vocaloid :ohoho: ). There also seem to be actual songs. :ayashii:

Also, a new compilation supervised by Mike himself has been released, and ended up at #6 in UK charts. :sparkleguy: of course, it DID get released in about a week after the Olympics opening ceremony :plot:
It oddly excludes Tubular Bells III (unless the first track is a mix of them all) and Tres Lunas, but on the other hand, has four tracks from The Millennium Bell, including The Doge's Palace! :nosebleed:

Oh, and finally:

The WHOLE video is something. :plot: Even though it's not half as mindscrewing as, say, Five Miles Out. :ohoho:

You're welcome. :sparkleguy: Mike has a long career and over two dozen albums filled with quality melodies and elaborate instrumentation (special mention to DAT GUITAR :nosebleed: ). He's worked with A LOT of genres (and is believed to have created some of them, like ambient), so there's plenty to find for everyone.
