^ I understand your opinion, but what bothers me is that they hide the truth when they say that there was only 1 new member at that time. They could have nicely said that there were 4 and the one left, or something, so now they are only 3, that would be more honest.
me feels the same....

Hey there guys I'm actually the translator for this article (posting on my heretofore unused CPM account lol) and just going through the comments here I realised a slight mistake of mine when translating has unfortunately turned into a bit of a misunderstanding. The line that says: 'Hikaru was the new member at the time' should actually be 'Hikaru was a new member at the time...' I've fixed it up at the source, so feel free to modify it here as well. I was having a lot of trouble with getting all the information in the sentence into understandable English at the time so when I finally got it to where I was satisfied with it, I kind of just left it as it was without thinking about it too much (I totally forgot that Hikaru wasn't the only new member then), sorry about the confusion. This is where translating Japanese to English can get tricky since they don't really have a/the equivalents so when putting it in an English sentence that requires one or the other you kind of need to decide at your own discretion which to use.

That aside, I hope you have been enjoying my translations ^^

Thanks so much for the translation and posting here to clarify it!

utattehoshii, thank you very much for it as well as for the rest of the Kalafina Record articles!! I spotted some other mistakes (not translation ones) when reading it so it would be good if you make it one more read, unless you fixed them too. :)

@kugayama - That's OK, I just didn't want there to keep being a misunderstanding because of a mistake I myself made. Albeit without mentioning her by name, Kajiura did say in her Kalafina Record interview that there were 'two' who stood out to her from the auditions, so even though she only does mention Hikaru by name in the end, it's not as if she's ever forgotten that Kalafina was once a group of four, however brief that period was.

@george - There probably are, I think a common mistake I make when doing things (translations or essays etc) is just being too easily satisfied once I'm done to want to go over and change it again. It's getting pretty late where I am but I definitely will when I have the time.

I can't blame you; translating that huge amount of text must already be daunting enough, and then you have to check through the whole thing again...

Thank you very much for your hard work  These interviews give so much insight, being able to understand them is really wonderful.

You're welcome ^^ Rest assured I do proofread before I post, it's just at that point I'm just so relieved to have it all done I don't perhaps do it as thoroughly as I should.

but it seemed a little ungrateful of her to go through the audition process, beat thousands of other hopefuls and end up going lolbye after one single.
You have a point, but imho the problem is that we don't know the real reason of her leaving the group.

I don't think it makes a difference from Sony's POV though. If she left because she was ill or had a family problem or something like that it would be rather unfortunate, but it's not Sony's business after all.

I read somewhere that she left to continue her studies and become a soloist eventually, but now I'm guessing it was all a lie?

It's also possible tat Sony didn't want to pay a 4th vocalist, or Kajiura really didn't want another 4 girl band.

Thank you so much carlenne/utattehoshi! Really enjoyed reading these :chuu:

Wow...that would be really slack...like "Okay maya, after auditioning all these hundreds of people, you're hired!" Then, a few months later, *looks at budget* "Whoops hehe, sorry, we don't wanna pay you anymore, so byebye!" :bye:

Did Sony ever state explicitly that Maya left to pursue her studies or was that just conjecture, and no one really knows the real reason? :confu:

I don't know, in the wiki page for Kalafina in spanish says that Maya left because she had academic responsabilities because she had to go to uni, but there's no citation so take it with a grain of salt.

Kowz, it's also possible what you say, but sadly, it would be all the more reason for Sony to act the way it's acting and try to wipe Maya out from our minds :uh..: Note that I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just saying it's something that happens.

Oh, according to the wiki entry on Kalafina, Sony stated that Maya was just a temporary member for Sprinter/ARIA so Idk anything anymore

^ There was a Sony announcement about her so anything apart from that is inaccurate (that doesn't mean that this announcement contains the truth too XD). Just go to http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Music/Arch/S ... index.html and type "Maya" in Firefox's Find.

Maya

My limited knowledge of japanese tells me that the part that Maya was a member only for Spirnter/ARIA is there in the 4th line. Also, that she had plans to become a soloist so she wouldn't continue to be a member. But that's all I can tell :ohoho: I'd appreciate if someone who is more well versed in the language could clarify this mystery

^ If I remember well from a past translation (which you can also find if you search the forum) She quits but she "wishes to keep singing as solo" ) and we then found that she participates in some events in Hokkaido with some other groups, so my guess is that she and her family couldn't afford moving to Tokyo like Hikaru did

yeah, maybe that's why. It would've been better for all if she got a real solo career though :nosebleed:

Symphonia always gave me a feeling of tears..Yuki really connected to me
