I would have expected Spacecraft to have made Kalafina's YouTube channel to be public and searchable, since they became active this year. 🤔

If they also posted promotional content for the group before and during the Christians and New year holidays that would be smart.
 
It sure seems like Sony's channel... maybe SC could recover it (and change the @name from kalafinaSMEJ) but Iunno if Sony'd go for it...
 
The Tracklist for the Ghibli Album has been annoynced! Kalafina will be performing “Arrietty’s Song” from, well, “The Secret World of Arrietty”.

(This news has me absoluetly ecstatic, by the way. Arrietty’s Song is genuinely one of my all time favorite Ghibli tracks. I was hoping for Kalafina to cover it, since it has such a mystical atmosphere and could work for their harmonies, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. This genuinely made my day; I’m so excited for February!!!!!)

Hmmm... 🤔

It's a beautiful Celtic-style soundtrack, sung in Japanese, and created by a French lady called Cécile Corbel and her band, who (I learned) also sang the English, Japanese, and French versions of the song/soundtrack (very, VERY cool). This song style fits well with Kajiura's oft-used 3/4 waltz style and sometimes Celtic melodic and instrumental sensibilities, so an appropriate choice for Kalafina!

From her Spotify bio (where "Arrietty's Song" has over 16 million listens): "This artist with a captivating universe was born in 1980 in Finistére, Brittany. She forges a unique and inspired path as a composer, author, Celtic harpist, and singer." ... Her work on the movie of the year in 2010, earned her the title of Best Original Soundtrack of the Year at the Japan Golden Disc Awards, as well as two gold records."

So, an award-winning composer and a beloved song. This will definitely be eagerly awaited by fans, and I await a listen as well.

For Kalafina, the chorus is the real work, where the harmony will shine. For me, this is a song to be led by either Hikaru first on verse one, then Keiko on verse 2, and Wakana just joins for the chorus harmony. Hikaru actually has/had the right Elf-like voice for it (think "Hikaru no Senritsu"), but she can't sing gently like she used to be able to so it will be more breathy... I do think she can do it since the verse melody doesn't have high notes per se... The song is also acoustic so a good choice not requiring belted vocals and the voice can shine more naturally.

(P.S.:I can also see Haruka Shimotsuki covering this song since she's quite Celtic-influenced in her music and their voices are SO SIMILAR, in terms of color, forward placement and range!)

Like Decretum, it's one of my favourite songs from Ghibli soundtracks and it seems to really be a good match for Kalafina as a cover song...

The Corrs is still (with Kalafina/FictionJunction/Yuki Kajiura works and Peter Gabriel) my favourite band/artist... Mune no Yukue has a "The Corrs in blue album vibe" I think and Red Rose a "The Corrs live instrumental vibe"...

It's a good match for Kalafina definitely. I am just hoping Hikaru can nail the lead (as I think she should take it, anyway). Props to Kajiura for building that sound.

I am sure they can't wear these for the live, but they look lovely in them. I hope they do a fuller photoshoot in these (and similar) costumes.
 
i feel like it's not fair to fictionjunction if i didn't say the things i found wrong with that teaser picture. the dresses and the Kalafina ladies themselves are gorgeous. love the styling as it is almost a nod to OG Kalafina with those Edwardian-inspired dresses.

the backdrop and the shot though... really should've taken the pic a little more to Wakana's side because the shot was really unbalanced with the backdrop being cropped on Wakana's side but empty on Hikaru's side. not a big fan of the blue background and that burgundy draping (really couldn't tell what color that fabric is due to overexposure and the awful contrast to the blue background. is it burgundy, is it brown? is it wine red? idk.) that color combination is actually really bad lol. the editing is also messy with too much overexposure on the blue background and the top of the spike-y draping. like i could list at least 3 things i would've done differently if i were the set coordinator and photo stylist but we'll see. they definitely took more pictures for pamphlet and/or live photobook for merchandise. maybe there was a vision there, i just couldn't see it yet.

i really couldn't tell what those spikes/stalagmites are supposed to represent or even do... what really annoys me is the fact that the prop staff tried to make those spikes to be symmetrical but the attempt was really half assed. that overexposure though!!!! it's like the photographer (and the editor, it's usually the same person for photoshoots) doesn't know the basic principle of photography and photo editing: the pictures should always show/have only one direction of light. that awful overexposure really makes it seem like the light came from above and the front. i like these dresses a lot more than their 2025 anniversary live teaser dresses but as a visual teaser this one is a huge downgrade in quality. and those spikes didn't help because they actually looked really flat instead of three dimensional if not for the creases on the fabric draping 😭
