I didn't know where else to post this or whether it's already known on the forums/amongst our members, but I found out yesterday that Kajiura's Ensei(/Himeboshi/whichever title it's called) from Mai-Hime (several different remixed versions of it) is used as the main theme music for the Mario Music Box game. Just thought it was interesting.

(And also, actually, while we're on this topic, is that even allowed because of copyright, or is it fine as long as its acknowledged?)

^its a radio show that's not until May 5

ピーアーク presents bayfmフリマパラダイス

They performed:

[1] one light
[2] far on the water
[3] ring your bell

They've been guesting on this programme a total of 3 times now.

Wakana is still ever so shark-crazy.
The other two chose to show photo of ramen. Crab ramen for Keiko and Miso Ramen for Hikaru.

Host congratulated them on ARENA and Budokan, she also mentioned the far on the water SPECIAL FINAL BD & DVD.
And well since the event is by bayfm the host also congratulated the girls on their 300th Kalafina Club (which unfortunately wasn't as entertaining as certain previous episode but STILL lol)

Can't really hear Keiko much.

If it's the original recording, or even a re-mix, it has to be licensed. If it's a recording of the song (a cover version), then there is no license is required for it's use. Royalties still have to be paid for it's use. The songwriter can always refuse to allow a song's use. It's rare. For using it in a game, the game maker pays a licensing fee to the publishing company / songwriter. Most times these licenses are open ended. Some times they aren't, so it has to be removed from sound tracks. So, as long as they license the song, pay a fee, then pay royalties from each unit sold, every thing is fine.

Just found this on VK today

Compare that with the accapella which is in this interview somewhere. It's super clear Kalafina's singing style has evolved a bunch which is really interesting and somewhat beautiful. If Kalafina stayed the same forever things would go nowhere and Kalafina could've ended ages ago

It seems Hikaru sounds much better here then she did in Budokan. Maybe she read our posts and decided to practice her "nice" voice more :XD:

I think the 3 of them actually blend even better nowadays since a few years ago (i.e. when the three of them sing together they sound more cohesive to me now and the harmonies feel...tighter?), which makes sense since so time has passed and they probably have become so familiar with each other's voices, quirks, style etc.

I remember a lacrimosa performance from...storia live in morph tokyo? Their voices were powerful but the harmony was bad - Hikaru was singing too loud.

Yup, I think you're right. What's more noticeable to me nowadays is that they're better at complementing one another whereas previously at times rather than harmonising with each other it sounded more like each of the three were singing their own lines independently, which meant that sometimes someone would be too loud or too soft and the effect might be them unintentionally singing over the top of one another. Now they feel much more balanced and like I said before, cohesive.

EDIT: also that mezamashi clip with snippets from the spring strings live...DAMMIT when are we gonna get a strings live or one of the Xmas strings live releases?!?!?! WAAANT

^I agree as well. They are much better at supporting and harmonizing with each other than they were a few years ago. Their chords sound much fuller and more rich now. Though occasionally they still fall out of balance, it's been happening less and less through the years.

Watching it twice it seems extremely true actually. I didn't notice the first time through. There are lots of telltale signs that show she's gone to a vocal coach or something. Her jaw is dropping a lot more which makes the sound project louder and further which means it's not at the back of her throat like in Budokan. Her eyebrows are raised, that helps with higher notes and lastly she's smiling way more which helps correct pitch and brighten tone.

These signs are actually really noticeable in the Gogatsu No Mahou video way back last September during the kaijurago, and she's definitely improved on these techniques too.

It makes me super excited for the FOTW DVD that's releasing:sohappy:

EDIT: Watching that Gogatsu video and the recent TV size KNGNN they did it seems ALL of them are using the same techniques to some degree (though mostly Hikaru.) There's even this part in that TV size where Wakana seems to turn her regular open mouth into a small smile too. (Though perhaps I'm being over analytical.)

I wonder if they've actually gone to a vocal coach or they just picked up these tips from Keiko (since I remember Hikaru often saying that Wakana and Keiko used to give her breathing exercises to help with the long Magia notes)

Keiko's always been doing this sort of thing since she's been with Kaijura. Her jaw has always dropped the furthest and she's always smiled the most (even in more darker tone songs.)

The only thing Keiko's never done is the eyebrow thing. There was one time where she pitched a note while looking upwards in AE's Mune no Yukeue (seen here.) Though that's a bit different. One of my personal singing teachers said "Think up while singing down and vice-versa it helps your notes come out" (since I had trouble singing a high note at the time.) Either that or she was remembering/pitching that note since there's quite a large jump between that note and the next. Either way it's not the same. Perhaps all 3 of them are going to a vocal coach together. I've never seen Wakana smile so much either.

Anyways these are just kinds of the things I notice. I've been in almost every single choir at my school and I take singing quite seriously since it's one of the only skills I'm on a level playing field with everyone else in (since my disability can't affect my singing.) All of these techniques have been pointed out to me by my choir teachers over the years and Kalafina is very similar to a choir (Keiko says so herself in many ways, especially about her role in Kalafina.) So it's only natural they'd all be using these techniques. I don't know how many times I was like: "Smile more Hikaru!!" During the Budokan DVDs so my prayers have finally been answered.
