JUNNA

Ι dont wanna fight with JUNNA, she is gonna scream at me like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4nBc4zfvRc :notlistening:
What a way to start with a dense belt at the very beginning!

If your earphones were set too high it would be shocking and maybe a little painful, especially on that high note! Take it easy JUNNA! When the vibrato came in it really felt like a rock-style vocal to me.

JUNNA has the range and the power, so why not she use it? The beginnings of the belts were a little wayward and they only settled when she brought in the vibrato. I think she has some work to do on her onsets for high belts.

Kaori is better at doing that sudden belt (though sometimes she also loses control), though hers is less rock than JUNNA's - Emiko also seems to be good at that too. I am more a fan of a smoother onset/warmer tone for belting like Gemie or Mizuki (both of nZK fame).

Listening to Kaori's new song and it's musical elements, I contrasted it to JUNNA's Kajiura song, the sea and a pearl, in terms of that song's use of strings, having a guitar solo, and having a dramatic bridge, alternative melodies, and a much faster tempo.

Listening to her "Here" song (new version) a few minutes ago, I thought that JUNNA actually has a mournful timbre in her voice. In my mind I thought of her as an "alto-Wakana" in terms of that sad feel. I don't think of bright/happy when I think I think of JUNNA's voice, there's always an underlying melancholy (like she's crying inside).

Even in the way she presents herself and carries herself when singing, yes her style is intense and she belts, but with her use of cry, and the appeal/feel in her voice, it does touch the feelings in a slightly sad way.

Maybe I need to find a sunny/summer-style song that she's sang to see if there's a difference in her underlying timbre. 🤔
