it’s my first time hearing lighthouse, and can i say i have it on repeat and i might like it more than kanata… the kajiurago by yuriko is so beautiful. and the instrumental 😭 and kaori’s bridge. it’s another generic song to me but it harkens back to chiba saeko era. near the end of the chorus, LL sounds a bit like Chiaki or even YUUKA to me.

(i thought lighthouse was just a bside ☠️)

Love this write up. i was just thinking about how this song reminded me a little of alleluia, so i really enjoyed that comparison lol

I think sometimes the simpler songs are probably some of Kajiura's favourite and most heartfelt/core to her (e.g. Parade), which may not seem as exciting to us fans on first listen.

She can compose more complex and dark-style music (within her lane) and layered stuff which she obviously enjoys creating, but the major/positive/nostalgic or more "generic" melodies seem to be the most real from her. She likes long vocal lines and held notes (to hold the emotion of the lyric too). That's why she loves singers who can hold those long notes and add little emotional inflections (including vibrato) to indicate evolution within the held note, while the instrumentation or chords change around them.

She sure does. There's a freedom and emotion in how she sings it that carries forward into the rest of the song. I love her voice and her heart as presented in her performances. I am waiting for a slower emotional ballad from her.
