FictionJunction『引き出しで発光している』(feat. KAORI)(digital release Aug 23)

It is very refreshing indeed! Kind of reminds me of a Saeko Chiba song a little. I like the drumming, it's easy to tap along with it. The guitar is nice too. Everyone is great here. She sounds like she's having fun singing it. I am jealous of those who went to the live and saw it live, but happy for them too, of course!

From the starting instrumental, I liked the chord progression. The variation in the chorus was really nice too, as a contrast to the verse.

Smiled when Yuriko's voice came in with the kajiurago, apart from that it could be thought of as a really nice song (and one might not realize it is from Kajiura, otherwise). I am curious about a possible future acoustic version, or one with strings included. 🤔

The song feels like a journey, and Kaori gets to belt in some parts, too. I wonder if Emiko harmonized with both Kaori in the verse/chorus and Yuriko in the kajiurago, or if it was LINO LEIA that harmonized with Yuriko (we know LINO has some strength in her own low range).

Overall, Hikidashi de Hikaru Shiteru 『引き出しで発光している』 is a pleasant song, and a good Kajiura showcase for a more mature Kaori (from the last song written for her).

I feel Kajiura's showcase songs (as with any other composer, I suppose) are an expression of their feelings for the singer for whom they are writing, and their thoughts about their voice.

There's no LL in this studio version.

Emiko clearly did the harmonizing for Kaori.

Now the kajiurago I'm guessing is only Yuriko (both high lines) and Joelle. I don't hear others there, but it's not like I'm always correct...

Romaji Lyrics and Translation ?

It is refreshing :) and at the same time, I felt somehow sad while listening it, especially in the last part of the music :(.

Wondering what's glowing in the drawer?

Honestly, I didn’t really care for it. Which is a shame because I like how the arrangement feels unique. But Kaori’s voice just sounds . . . Forceful? I guess? It doesn’t please my ears in the slightest, which is weird because I usually find her vocal work to be pretty solid. Oh well.

The chorus work by the others was nice but I didn’t feel quite as enchanted as I did by them in Black Rose. Which is less of a criticism and more a point in Black Rose’s favor.

Maybe i ll think different of it if i see the lyrics translation but as a song its pretty standard, and not out of ordinary in some way either melody or singing-wise. The only kinda refreshing part was that it was the first song after how many years that it didnt have strings.

I like it. Is it my new all time favorite YK song? No. But I like it. Makes me feel good.

Also george, YK did have a few songs post-SC without strings. The issue is how many there were compared to ones with fbm&strings. Not a lot.

Edit:
Correct me if I'm wrong but, looking at that list from another thread I made, post-SC it's really just Yakou toryo, Beginning and Hikidashide without any strings (3) plus Taiou no Kouro(cello), Kai(cello) and black rose(violin) with solos (3). The rest is FBM&strings or just strings (30 songs, including 2 rearranges).

And yes, it pleases me this new song does not have any strings.

Few more like this and maybe I dare to hope for a new electronica/techno track with just Kajiura & guitar or another solo instrument in musicians credits.
