Actually Joelle sang a low harmony on the first two notes then climbed up to unison with Yuriko. Maybe that's what you perceived as being "powerful" but it was written that way. It gave Joelle a little bit of a standout part where her vocal color and warmth was heard uniquely in the entire arrangement. She had the least to do in the song, while Yuriko was sprinkled in the chorus and also had the bridge (thoughtful Kajiura).

I agree. Something to take it to another level, kind of that lovely complex chord at the end of Eri's "Ring Your Song" at the KajiFes.

Yuriko always smiles fully (with her eyes) with Joelle like in the Kanagawa YKL20.
Emiko's cute smile behind them also brightened that scene further.
