I first learned Tagalog, which is the base dialect of the Filipino language, through my family.
I then started to learn English when I began to study. I agree with casa about that bit on English as well. There was even this policy of the class that there is a fine for each word spoken not in the English language without permission. Oh, cruel teachers, they really know how to raise money, lol.
