I wish people would say "I like it because I liked it" instead of making up things that aren't true to try and rationalize their fondness. People shouldn't even feel the need to defend what they like with half-assed "reasons", because that implies that they're ashamed of their tastes, and they shouldn't be, even if it's something as utterly revolting as Wuthering Heights.
People like what they like, and as long as it doesn't overstep into the harm principle, then it doesn't matter at all. You can't control your subjective enjoyment levels, so I have no idea why people feel the need to lie and conjure up fake virtues of things to try and deflect some kind of prejudice I guess they're expecting.
Surely people can't be so ridiculous as to assume that they can remove all criticisms and negativity surrounding the objective quality of the original work just by going "NO SHUT UP IT'S SUBJECTIVE OPINION, I THINK IT'S AWESOME THEREFORE IT IS", right? Everything, and I mean absolutely everything, can be seen objectively, as long as you're not delusional. If people would just see the light by removing their heads out of their ass, that's all it'd take.
I don't do that with the crap things that I like, such as Freezing & to-LOVE-ru & Shitsurakuen, and I don't lie about their quality, either. That does nothing but hone pigheaded stubbornness and dishonesty. Maybe I expect too much of people, to be able to distance themselves from irrationality and see things logically, without freaking out and having a shitfit because they don't want to admit that what they like is actually of low quality, as if that means they can't like it anymore.
DON'T MIND ME, I HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM A WUTHERING HEIGHTS FORUM AND I HAVE EMOTIONS
