Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#22 ~precious pieces~ 4th July - 9th August 2026

Kalafina (as individuals and as an entity) are free to move on from their musical relationship with Kajiura and FBM, and are as well free to perform the music (since they have full performance rights) in any order, with any set of musicians (selected by their MD), but it shouldn't be OK for ardent fans of theirs to belittle or dismiss Kajiura's or FBM's heavy and defining investment for a decade into the group's entire music catalogue, by pretending that they don't exist or insinuating that they were holding Kalafina back, or whatever other fantastical ideas they may come up with.

It's more music for us, that's the way I see it.
I guess it's the good way to see it.

Kalafina can sing Kalafina's songs composed by Kajiura because they are the original singers. Yuki Kajiura can use Kalafina's songs composed by herself with any singers she likes or wants to perform because she is the original composer. And they can do it both when they want. More great versions of great songs for us.

(Akagi is high up in my view)
Completely off topic but in case you're not familiar (since I remember your entrance to YK was via lives), here's a version of Honoh no Tobira with Rie solo that I omitted from the other thread ('cause I wasn't including instrumentals unless there were years inbetween recordings):

Edit: And yes, I'm on a Honoh no Tobira high atm.

This was a nice rendition.

Akagi was the features soloist in this version. Since I am not intimately familiar with much of Kajiura's discography, and especially instruments, are there other examples of tracks with Akagi being in this full-on soloistic mode for the entire song?

The main theme of "Kimetsu no Yaiba" (Demon Slayer) (KEIKO)

Watching this again and wondering, if Kajiura was to perform this again, who would be the better choice to take the song?
The best of course would be for Chiaka herself (as the OG and most natural/best with those ethnic vocalizations) to be available to sing it, but in her absence?

For lead, I would really be curious to hear LINO LEIA, or Emiko (for the loud/bold tone), though I also think Emiko's low note in the choir chant section would be really good since she uses more nasal resonance/mask in her tone so the low range won't be as round/swallowed as with Kaori/Keiko, i.e. it would cut through more. Joelle and Yuriko would either musical theatre it, or have too much vibrato in it, respectively. You also need the visual movements.personality.

Joelle's L.O.R.D. performance in KajiFes indicates she can sing that forward dramatic style (especially since it's essentially all kajiurago), but would she hold back her belting/head voice and stay in the mask the entire song?

I don't think Kajiura needs to perform Kimetsu no yaiba theme any time soon. At least not until the final movie of Kimetsu is about. By which time I hope she gets Chiaki back as a guest, including a theme song with her for the final movie. My copium. :p

Good point about the next performance depending to the movie release.

Chiaki doing another song for the finale would be something indeed! I am sure they both didn't imagine the anime would become the juggernaut it did, when they first started working on it.

^ Nobody thought it would be so popular either, not even the author or ufotable. I dont remember if i posted the Youtube video here but appearently around the time Kimetsu no Yaiba first came out, the tax authorities of japan found out Hikaru Kondo (ufotable boss) was evading taxes via the ufotable cafes, and he was arrested so the studio decided to release the Kimetsu Mugen Train movie in movie format to maximise profit and pay for his release. Fortunately they were successful in this as after this movie the franchise exploded in popularity, and its also why so many anime franchises release anime movies these days too (it also has less deadlines and more time for the studio to work on it but it also means we wait forever for soundtracks ^^;)
