Yuki Kajiura Live Special Edition ~Christmas Dinner Show 2025~

I mean what other Alleluia is there in Kajiura's discography... she's atheist through and through. even with her frequent usage of the words Kyrie/Dominus Deus she always says it's never about the God in Christianity lmao. it's not like she's gonna have them perform Handel's version of Hallelujah 😂

Of course its that one as Emiko is the one who can do alto voice. Apart from those menthioned by rita there is also the track Les Soldats in Noir where she is using bells and greek priest chants in a playful way which would make actual priests angry i think.

https://youtu.be/Yfr-dYWV1vg?

About the atheist part i think she is very careful to never insult / use shinto or buddhist stuff, but christianism has a special place in japanese society cause as you can see in most anime catholic church is portrayed as evil (like FSN with Kotomine or To Aru Majutsu no Index / Railgun) cause IRL japanese rulers at some point said no to catholic apostoles who went there to convert people and at some point the religion was also banned, but i think not anymore, there are actually around 1-3 million japanese christians.

In Japan Christmas is just decoration and happy songs to boost trade sales that why they mostly go on dates in anime or IRL they eat fried chicken.

My point was that she was giving Emiko the lead on a most-beloved song she wrote for Kalafina.

Kajiura has no doubts about her ability to tackle anything she's given and hit it out of the park.

And as far as we knew, it could only be well executed with Keiko's signature vocals. I'd like so much to listen to Mune no Yukue in #21. It was certainly interesting.

Even for songs by FJ-Yuuka, Emiko broke this paradigm...look at 'Destination', it was insane! I would never have guessed that a version of Destination with Emiko on vocals would be so good. It didn't fall short of the original in any way.

With each performance, I see Kajiura unafraid to present Emiko as someone who can replace Keiko perfectly and deliver even more. I'm loving this current phase of FJ!

I can briefly imagine a much, much slower version of the chorus in a minor scale with symphonic metal instrumentals and soaring strings. 🤔🤔🤔 And a halftime feel with sweeping strings and Kajiurago chants at the "for the Lord omnipotent reigneth" section, then returning to the metal for the rest of the piece/song... 🎸

Japanese are wary of any non-Buddhist/Confucian belief systems coming in, especially when it's outwardly or boldly displayed or belligerent. Maybe because there's no way to directly square it with their highly detailed cultural context (and also historically wary of foreign influence and losing their culture/norms). I think the Catholic/Orthodox churches have that strong hierarchical structure and have been portrayed as evil or corrupt in a lot of Western (US) media (including horror movies) which fascinates and influences Japanese creatives pulling compelling ideas for their storylines.

So true. Emiko's commanding vocal and physical performance, and the stronger background vocals (Kaori especially) able to give matching vocal energy and loudness to Emiko's lead elevated it to make it true Emiko version. I just watched the YKL#4 with Yuuka and of course Hikaru (mainly) and Yuriko's vocal fit the comparatively gentler vocal style of Yuuka.

🤔 Now I'm curious about Joelle taking the lead on a version of this song (supported by Kaori or LL), and even Kaori (with Emiko doing low harmony to her). Of course, Yuriko stays doing the high harmony parts.

With each performance, I see Kajiura unafraid to present Emiko as someone who can replace Keiko perfectly and deliver even more. I'm loving this current phase of FJ!
Yeah, what I am seeing is the rise and showcase of the FJ utility vocalists (Kaori being the first historically, now we have Joelle, and Emiko being a new anomaly because of the strength of her solo lead 'IQ'), as opposed to the specialty/single-focus vocalists (Yuriko, Keiko, Wakana, etc.). I should it's also a case of a stronger fluidity in the arrangements for vocals.

YKL#21 seemed to be a place of pushing everyone to be able to handle different parts in the chorus and harmony lines (especially the low harmonies) that, in earlier lives, they might have just defaulted to Keiko mostly, and Kaori a few times. I mean we had Joelle doing extended low harmonies, same with LL; Kaori really settling into her low range (fuller than prior to her childbirth); new and unexpected arrangements for several existing songs. It wasn't just a case of plugging Emiko as a straight swap for all Keiko parts and ending it there.

By the rearrangements of YKL#21 Kajiura seems to be slightly blending the "megumi" and "human" vocal archetypes/designations of her singers as she has historically has the "megumis" on our left of the stage and "human" on our right of the stage and assigned vocal parts to support that perception.

Joelle is a good example of one of her singers having an ability to straddle both designations at least to an extent.🎻

They covered Happy New Year by ABBA? That is EPIC! I love that song and was just listening to it the other day, as I have it on my Christmas playlist! I cannot wait to hear that!

Also delighted to see that they brought lullaby back from the dead. It's about time, damn! I bet the violin solo was goosebump inducing.

Really bummed that they didn't cover any classic Christmas songs like they did with Kalafina before. I would have loved a couple FJ versions in my collection (assuming this gets released)

Cool about Yuuka! I'm excited to see if her voice has evolved over the past decade. She was easy to write off at first listen, but when you get used to her songs, you realize she actually had an amazing voice.

Wooooow! What a rare thing? Kajiura covering songs that inspired her in music. ABBA is such a cross-generational pop powerhouse with SO MANY HITS!

Her voice has progressed. I've only heard her post-FJY singing in Sound Horizon's "Nein" concert, where she also did some acting (sing acting). She sounded really nice. A unique and expressive voice indeed.

^ What ? lol Kaori and Yuuka know each other since long ago. I think first time they ever appeared together on stage was Dreamport 2008 https://canta-per-me.net/live-events/2015-2016/2008-dp1/ , and the reason it didnt happen before that was because prior to DreamPort Kajiura was too shy to make her own concerts. First time Kajiura worked with Yuuka was back with nansho, and since 2003 as FJ Yuuka, and Yuuka's first recording with Kajiura was in (release date) May 2004 (Hitomi no Kakera) and with Kaori in (release date) July 6, 2005 with "tsubasa" (the eng ver of Yume no Tsubasa), but not sure if they met off-stage at some point in that period which is entirely possible. Meanwhile first time Revo / SH used Yuuka was in Gunslinger Girl Image Album, released December 21, 2005, but she didnt appear in any SH concert until Nein if im not wrong that came out April 22, 2015 and SH concerts are 6 months after the release of the story CD usually.

Well, I don't know what Joelle meant (maybe she meant all 3 of them, in which case I still don't know if all 3 shared the SH stage before this xmas live but I'm going to guess Joelle knows better than I) buuuut FJY first released recording was technically Akatsuki no Kuruma (FictionJunction featuring YUUKA) on Gundam SEED SUIT CD4 in June 2003 if you want to recall ancient history.

They were both with Spacecraft Produce, right?

I'm glad the live seemed to go well and that she's still playing Kalafina songs. Alleluia does have the feel of a Christmas song even if it really isn't. I can listen at any time. They all look great too!

I’d be surprised if Kajiura wasn’t arranging Kalafina songs for her own lives. I look forward to many more performances across her discography.

oh wait Emiko isn't actually as old as her voice sounds and how the hair and makeup in YKL21 made her look to be?? i genuinely thought she's past 40 :omgz: that hairdo aged her 20 years omfg

i'm sorry for keep editing this post but she was born in 1999? she's 26??? genuinely thought she's older than the Kalafina ladies lmaoooo omg she's actually a baby. girl i'm sorry for calling you auntie. i'm older than you are (she is).

Past 40? So she would have been older than Kaori??? Goodness, you should check out her TikTok you'll see she's still really cute in a youthful way. I don't know where you got that idea that she was post-40.

What is wrong with you? 😂😂😂 The Kalas are her mamas or at least, big sisters/aunties, that is, Auntie Hikaru, Auntie Keiko, and Auntie Wakana. 👩‍🦱👩‍🦰👩

But she has a bigger voice than all of them!

I suspect that Emiko imitated her dad's mannerisms and voice growing up, apart from her having a lower-ranged voice. She just seems to take after her dad more than her sister.

ngl the first time i heard her in black rose i was like, that's an old woman for sure. i thought Kajiura was done with recruiting new, young singer and went with an old one who is more experienced. then i looked at her from YKL21 and that hairstyle and that voice immediately put her at the age range of 40+ to me, and i honestly thought she's even pushing 50. i genuinely thought she went for a hairstyle that suited her rocker image and was more of "her time", which was the 80s-90s permed hair. she wasn't even alive then lmaooo. the picture above was genuinely the first time i saw her looking young. to be fair even after i googled her i still wouldn't put her at being in her 20s lol

it's not like I've seen her a lot, i had only watched YKL21 twice with like half of the performance being skipped. and no I don't have tiktok (i avoid that app like plague) so i wouldn't have known either way.

How though? because her skin is very plump. The hair color and curly was change for the Marie Curie role she played (all actresses that played the same role had it sort of orangy curly) so it makes sense it can look dated.

😂 😂 😂 Because her voice is heavy and dark? Did you hear it from her first notes after the instrumental intro?

Have you ever felt that hearing Keiko's voice in contrast, since they both have low voices? How would you describe the difference in your perception of their voices.

It's a hairdo that has a more classic retro charm, and makes her looks unique from the usual straight hairdo/bangs of other Japanese singers. Her very curly hairdo reminds me of Tori Kelly, to be honest. I would like to have them sing together, just thinking about it...

having a very plump skin doesn't exactly help much considering a lot of Japanese/Asian celebrities have really plump, healthy skin at their 40s. and it's kinda on me because i've only watched YKL at bilibili on 480p 🤣

@CloisteredFlame idk. both Wakana and Keiko to me have a mature sound without sounding old. though I thought Wakana was in her 30s when she was in her 20s lol. maybe the visual aided in that because I've watched Keiko since she's in her 20s and she looked like she was in her 20s. Joelle has a brighter sound but she sounds old (and she's old) and i thought Emiko is the same age as Joelle 🤣. i think partially because Emiko's a great singer, she acted really experienced in YKL, and that hairdo aged her really badly therefore i immediately associate those things and her voice with her being old.
