OK, so this is a bit long.
I watched the bilibili video through and made notes/comments.
The intro to YKL21 sounded like a starter to a Perfume concert to me. Wow! Maybe we (rather I) need another vocal/electronic track from Kajiura.
EMIKO's
soaring vocals are so powerful at the start! "
black rose" was rosing! Oh yeah, some Indian-style dance moves too.

She was just prancing all over that stage. LINO LEIA was really getting into the movement too. It became the EMIKO show! Hearing a new kajiurago live is SO SWEET! Kaori made a good take at the low range, she hit the notes just missing a bit of the cavernous depth of Keiko.
During the first MC, Kajiura had the ladies speaking
a whole lot more
and showing more of their personality during their introductions. Wow, something
new and totally unexpected! Joelle seemed to have darker lipstick than usual, and a rose in her hair. Yuriko was the most hilarious: her routine seemed like something she probably started earlier in the tour, since the audience knew exactly what to do, seemingly. This is all like a natural outflow from their activity on social media leading to the live. More of this energy and hype please! Wow! It's like a bit of the freedom that Kalafina has to express themselves in their lives. You have all these lovely ladies (singers) out in front on stage and we usually don't get to see their personalities. It feels like Emiko's entrance (and Kajiura's 60th refresh) has helped with this turnaround. This is already a top Yuki Kajiura Live for me, just with this energy change. I would have loved to see rito around for this vibe.
? Kajiura was kind of hidden behind soloists often, also hiding behind her hair so maybe the choices of angles of the piano or the cameras were weird... (Or maybe I just hyper focused on those shots where I couldn't see her, lol.)
I am also surprised at the layout of the instruments with Kajiura having singers standing in front of her. She seems to have made a strong decision to have more of the focus be on the singers, including with the way they were often spot-lit, and the camera angles too. Curious. I am looking forward to more new Kajiura freedom on stage.
Maybe one day she leads a song, even just from the piano? I am sad about the usually-bubbly/dancing Akagi looking much older due to her pain/recovery.
Oh, and Junior looked much older with his blond-dyed hair.
Emiko's "
Destination" was so smooth. She has such a commanding tone and voice - demands your attention! Kajiura was jumping on the piano when the chorus started.

Emiko+Kaori+Yuriko is a solid trio. You need a strong lead and Emiko is surely that!
"
kotonohoka yawarakai": Wow, Emiko's placement is more forward and cuts through the mix more than Keiko's voice which was more pharyngeal (that more cavernous, dark sound).
I feel like a traitor but I barely missed Keiko during this live... And I also agree, EMIKO brings a fresh air to the group that probably was long needed.
I feel you on that. It was nice to share the low harmony parts so widely (and unexpected). If Emiko had been doing a straight fill-in for Keiko on every of her usual parts, there would have been much more room for a spotlight and comparison and criticism, especially from Keiko fans. With Kajiura's vocal re-arrangements, it allowed the focus to be more of the music than who's singing what.
"
Hachigatsu no Organ" was not bad.
"
Hikidashite hakkō shite iru" was sweet and emotional, with Kaori giving it her usual belt-y expressiveness. I just gotta say here that Emiko's voice will never get swallowed in the mix like a few times happened with Keiko's (when's she sang quieter than required, in terms of dynamics or just loudness-wise).
"
Toki no mukō, maboroshi no sora" The prime trio in the house! Good to see the three of them singing together. Kaori's low harmony to Joelle's lead for the pre-chorus was surprisingly strong. Lots of body movement, swaying, and expression from the three of them. What's going on this live? It's like everyone took their caffeine before coming on stage, and I'm here for it. Like they've been unleashed for every song.
Always hyped for the start of "
Kioku no Mori", with that Hanae chant. No voice more haunting than hers in YK world. ASCA's brighter and poppier voice came in strong from the start, cutting through the mix (again contrasting with Keiko's warmer/throatier sound). Woah! Joelle/LINO LEIA mini-kajiurago on verse 2 shocked me. Nice difference - brighter and lighter than the usual Keiko/Yuriko for that section. ASCA's lead is softer than Kaori's lead on the chorus, so an overall brighter and lighter performance of the song. Very enjoyable!
ASCA is so pretty. Did Kajiura mention Yuuka's name during her MC with ASCA?
"
Kimigamita yumeno monogatari": ASCA's dramatic action piece. It went very well. It was interesting to have Joelle be doing continuous low harmony for such a long time. She nailed the pitches though her voice is generally lighter/higher so it was a light-touch low harmony. She's also always doing micro dynamics.
"
nostalgia" KOKIA starting breathier was definitely a change, with her slight yodels and masterful classical soprano power at the end. Kajiura also mentioned FICTIONJUNCTION YUUKA here again. I don't think I've heard her do this in the lives I've watched. Am I wrong? KOKIA has such a sweet speaking voice too!
"
Kaze yo Fuke" As epic as ever! KOKIA holding that last note into a sudden diminuendo with the strings and going on until the very end was very classical of her.
"
aikoi": I liked Korenaga's guitar riffs at the start. This is a song I'm hearing for the first time, and with Joelle and LINO LEIA doing synchronized dancing - VERY unexpected! Unpopular opinion I guess, but this is the time I hearing this song. JUNNA's voice was more rock-ish. For me, I think she only tends to falter on her higher belts where her voice can get thin/shrill. Oh, it's a Yuuka song... so I haven't heard it before, but I think I can understand the vocal contrast with the original in you guys' minds. She tends to approach songs with that ("I must belt") in her mind and sometimes lose out of more of the dynamics and resonance options. She needs another gear or two of power between 1-2-....5!
"
Umi to Shinju": I love this song. A positive and bright song. Yuriko returned after a long break (probably due to her health challenges to allow vocal rest). At her MC, Kajiura mentioned "Madoka Magica".
Speaking of which, when are we going to get ReoNa on Kajiura's stage? I would be curious about her doing a cover or two of Kajiura's classic songs with FJ. I guess she needs to do more collaborations with Kajiura.
"lighthouse": This was LINO LEIA's lead from the front of stage and she didn't own the stage. Emiko had more presence than her, which is unusual. Kaori and Emiko coming in for the bridge showed how it's done. Maybe she was focused on nailing the vocals instead of moving around/jumping. She also leaned forward when singing and came across as more passive.

I think part of it is also that LINO LEIA's voice is still stuck in her nose a bit so it is not as commanding as it should be as a lead vocalist in an up-tempo among all these powerhouses. It was only her last belt that really cut through for me.
"
nowhere": Emiko's interaction with Korenaga was cool - more of this in the future, please! I was surprised the song was a dual-solo between ASCA and JUNNA. The differences in their voices and styles was interesting to behold in real-time (or rather playback time): ASCA has a looser/languid and warmer sound, while JUNNA's is an edgier and more "anxious" sound.
"
zodiacal song": It felt a little muted to me without Akagi doing her dancing routine on stage. I also noticed she was less adventurous with her playing throughout, sticking to the middle range. I think we also missed Keiko's interactions with the others for this particular song, especially those interactions always included memories of the many times they've done the song.
I am thinking Emiko or KOKIA should take a stab at the Kimetsu no Yaiba main theme.
"
parade" was good as usual. Solid performance all around.
LiSA being around to sing "
Homura" was such a treat. She should show up every couple of YKLs, I think. Her voice sounded so strong compared to the last time. Emiko blended so well with her on the low harmony with presence and depth. Joelle's high harmony on the "woah woah" wasn't as present as Yuriko's, since Joelle used a softer, hooty head voice and Yuriko uses more resonance and heavier vibrato.
"
Shine in the Cruel Night/Zankokuna yoru ni kagayake" was EPIC! I liked the way LiSA slowed down her phrasing at the beginning of the long bridge section, sort of to indicate that they were not using playback for her vocals. Epicness all around!
"
stone cold" had 50% of the original singers but it was still epic! Emiko was just flying all over the stage.

She's a whole vibe all by herself. It felt like she had to contain her energy at times! Korenaga finally had the opportunity to fully let loose with his guitar solo!

Emiko really filled the low notes for that kajiurago bridge. I completely didn't realize (vocally) that Keiko wasn't there, so good job by Emiko.
