Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#21 - 60 Songs (July 26 - August 24, 2025)

Damn... the overture lol.
Sure is a different vibe than the previous 20 volumes (or at least what we got of them)...
Damn... the transition to black rose... wow...
So yea... ngl... this is almost what I wanted eons ago... why aren't we starting with "zodiacal sign"? Why are we usually starting with more mellow or mid tempo tracks?
Dang EMIKO... selling it... strutting it...

very nice eternal blue. very good vibes.

not me about to try justifying spending 35000 yen on this shite. I have to be strong.

lol yuriko
dang everyone is so lively & excited
yep... emiko giving new energy indeed...

jfc... this destination... 0_0
dis about to be EMIKO LIVE#1; if she is anything close to this in reality, Kajiura lucked out yet again.

aaaand time for one of my least favorite songs courtesy of FJ feat LL... I think I'll skip... oh... wait... LL is kinda giving it from the second verse...

oh shit... kotonohoka yawarakai... how will this go... I am stressed. XD pshhhhh... no problemo... lol. Very nice ending too. I think kajifes version still wins for me, specifically because of how excited Yuriko felt there.

I do feel there might be a lot of noticable audio editing in this concert so far based on how some of it matches the video for my little brain. Good thing I'm not the grunty from 15+ years ago that cared 2much... and I also could be wrong about it...

yay Hikidashide. the beginning was a little sudden. probably couldve used an MC before it. so here's the thing... Hikidashide studio is probably my favorite of the Kajiura songs in 2025 (yes... I listen to it regularly... it just makes me feel gud.). I didn't particularly care for it in this concert. :(

toki no mukou... no complaints from me so far. question is how I like keiko's one line in the kajiurago bridge here... Ok, Kaori's no Keiko in that spot but it's okay... no complaints. dang yuriko.

kioku no mori... will it be joelle doing yuriko's parts...??? cant wait to hear.
ngl... surprisingly decent choice for ASCA... and she's giving me more than in KajiFes...
okay moment of truth... bridge incoming... gib it to me... Joelle x LL very good, Kaori not so much actually Kaori's perfectly fine... but Joelle lost me with that one gliss...
I quite liked Kaori's overall backing outside of the kajiurago bridge. Joelle was great outside of that one gliss. LL had a nice spot in the finale, too.
I'm really surprised they overhauled the vocal distribution this much. It's cool even though I'd prefer new songs.

Dang, Kajiura is so lively.
oh sh. this ASCA MC is the first time I noticed Rie. Feels sad. Fingers crossed she gets better after that next surgery.

kimi ga mita. I had to go back to kajifes to check if the way they it was the same 'cause this felt weirdly different and ominous... and they had more than just piano there... still not my favorite song but again, like it more than kajifes. maybe cause less audible strings? joelle doing the backing vocals for asca also works for me. wait. yuriko's bridge vocals after the flute solo sound really cool here for me, will have to go back to kajifes and og studio again to check if it's the same, lol. yea, this song took me a while - I kept going back n forth between this and kajifes. I really like this ykl21 performance much more. ASCA x Joelle sound really good together.

woooo nostalgia x KOKIA~ very different... I do wish she didn't sharpen/push on that last "nostalgia" in the refrain... wait... LL backing... but yes? she always surprises me as a backing singer. I approve. o_0 delicious flute.
very, very nice but ngl... I think I will still hear YUUKA in my head when I think of "nostalgia"...

kazeyo fuke, okay but why did I think it's fena... lol... dang@Yuriko in the refrain... dang@Kaori in the second verse... they sound great together.

wooo aikoi.
sidenote: I've been thinking about this post-EMIKO but this concert really seems to have a flow issue for me with how the songs are stacked. very much like kajifes day2.
but wait. joelle and LL on backing? I don't think I was expecting them. 0_0
okay... sadly... I like JUNNA a lot... but this is not it. :/

umi to shinjuu is lovely. dang@Yuriko's "el dorado" in the first refrain. will have to go back to kajifes to see if Joelle was backing JUNNA. I like them together here.

lighthouse. LL bery gud. Winning me over when she's not trying to sing with that squeaky small voice like in og Hachigatsu. But Kaori taking over in the bridge pisses me off here still. :p

nowhere. EMIKO having so much fun. LL too. Everyone joining in.
ASCA feels great to me in this concert, compared to KajiFes. I'm still not convinced Yuriko knows what that one English line is... lol (not sure EMIKO knows either). JUNNA was great too but the song doesn't seem split particularly evenly between her and ASCA. I don't know what I was smoking when I wrote it - it's very evenly split, lol.

zodiacal sign should've been cut. sorry. okay, but Rie solo... yes? jr solo? Yes.

pareedo teim. Joelle is great. EMIKO is lovely, very natural. Yuriko forcing in the bridge but surefine otherwise. Kaori very nice. Unfortunate stringfest, but what can we do. It's Parade.

Damn they are milking the time before Encore lol. Could've spent some of that time between other songs so it flowed better.

Oh hey, Joelle and EMIKO doing backing for LiSA in Homura. Vewy nice. Vewy nice wowowow bridge from all 3. Not my favorite song but it was very nice.

Dang, EMIKO looks so cool behind LiSA in the MC. (No shade.)

Zankoku is a stringfest so it's unfortunate for this concert but LiSA did some vocal switchups that I didn't remember from the studio version so I liked it. I quite like the lighting from LiSA's camera when she hits the "zutto sobani" part. (The red is a little too intense on the Utahimes on the side. XD) All in all, it was very nice.

Not EMIKO doing that sobbing grimace and a heart on the side lol.

LOL EMIKO jogging knees first toward LL in stone cold .
LOL EMIKO skipping toward Yuriko...

Anyways, this was a great stone cold. Great job Kaori.

Concert started with a bang, ended with a bang. Yes. Thank you.

Edit:
After skipping through the live for the 2nd time, I crossed out some of my original thoughts where I didn't understand myself.

Also whatever I said about audio editing being noticable kind of doesn't register again when I'm rewatching random parts... so I don't even know what I was hearing/seeing...

okay, I'm making a separate post for this.

aikoi is the first true FAIL for me. it pains me to say because I like JUNNA. this is not it.

and I was convinced honoo no tobira was supposed to be in this live... my bad...
edit: wait. IT WAS IN THE SETLIST. and it is on BLURAY. o_0 at least I remembered right...
so they cut stuff out. maybe the flow is better on bluray too, because some of the transitions between songs after the first 30minutes or so don't flow that great. :/

^ Too bad, HnT is one of my fav FJY songs. glad its not cut from the BD.

@grunty: Is it me or Kimi ga mita yume no monogatari audio is out of synch with the video ? I hear the song but they look like they say different lyrics (i used your 2nd link) or they used playback track ?

seems like it was video issue as it doesnt happen on the 1st link one.

I don't remember. I was jumping between this and kajifes so much at that point that I'm not even sure if I actually paid attention, lol.

Will check particular songs again later, but I definitely thought there was a lot of disconnect between audio and visual throughout the concert.

Edit:
seems like it was video issue as it doesnt happen on the 1st link one.
Gud!

aikoi is the first true FAIL for me. it pains me to say because I like JUNNA. this is not it.
agreed. I appreciate a different take on the song but JUNNA or at least her delivery was just a mismatch

I definitely think EMIKO is a breath of fresh air. For us. And for Kajiura and her team.
Oh, yeah. She sure is.
Nostalgia is so good with KOKIA, exactly her music style too. I thought it was solo until I noticed Lino Leia in the shadows haha :D
It was a mature, full-fat take. KOKIA brought all sorts of feeling and melancholy to the song.

Nice job from LINO LEIA on her first full low harmony role, I think. She was sufficiently soft to match KOKIA, who brought the energy at times.

The bridge part was SOMETHING ELSE, so moving from KOKIA! I also loved her holding the long ending notes and adding rich vibrato/resonance.

Anyhow some random thoughts after the (long) first watch:
+ EMIKO yes, welcome.
+ even though I'd prefer new songs to be performed some of the new vocal distributions (and for backing vocals in particular) on previously performed songs worked quite well for me. I'm glad EMIKO did not get ALL the lower harmonies but both Joelle and Kaori did a lot of them. Even LL. Not to mention removing Yuriko from some songs - how scandalous. ;) And it mostly still worked for me.
+ I really quite enjoyed ASCA this time around compared to KajiFes which was a surprise for me.
- aikoi sucked ass (Umi to Shinjuu was lovely though so I figure they really need to make better choices for JUNNA)
+ everyone was so lively throughout the concert (sans Rie maybe but well uh... I guess we know why.)
? Kajiura was kind of hidden behind soloists often, also hiding behind her hair so maybe the choices of angles of the piano or the cameras were weird... (Or maybe I just hyper focused on those shots where I couldn't see her, lol.)
? the camera wideshots showing the auditorium/stage felt kind of weird, like half the screen was empty walls and it kind of looked cheap.
? some pacing issues for me like in ykl19 kajifes day2, after a while songs (and guests) feel kind of stacked on top of eachother (even if there's breaks); there's no breathing room

Ejoyed myself immensely.

I gave aikoi another shot and no. just no.
I will say LL is giving some really sweet effort there in her backing vocals in the second verse... I wonder if she could've done that in the leading vocal... (She legitimately surprises me whenever she does backing vocals, lol.) Hurrdurr. Alas, it is what it is.

Completely agree with Aikoi, unfortunately, one of the ones I was most excited for...

Also I didn't feel much with Nostalgia, I think I prefer Yuuka's version even though I love Kokia :( I liked this performance, don't take me wrong, but I still prefer Yuuka's version.

Nowhere I loved it. zodiacal sign as well.

Destination with EMIKO approved. In general, yes, welcome EMIKO, honestly what a good addition. I feel like a traitor but I barely missed Keiko during this live... And I also agree, EMIKO brings a fresh air to the group that probably was long needed. LL still lacks stage presence I'm afraid, she's there, but you barely notice her, she appears sometimes and then it's like "oh, yeah, she's also there" lol Unlike EMIKO that really took over since the first moment she appeared.

Overall, very good feeling and leaves me hopeful for what's to come :)

havent watched it fully, only until destination.
Now EMIKO is the definition of performer. That's whats have been missing in YK's lives and Kalafina's lives ... and even their MVs.
Expressiveness, dances. All of them were missing. Yuuka's in Vol 4 was kice though.

Really like Emiko here... destination is also very cool to hear and I didnt like the original.

Kalafina should learn a bit from her about performing.

about "black rose" studio version... I'm pretty sure I thought Joelle was the one that sang "yumeno youna" in the second verse... but guess not... (since I don't see a reason why they would change it to Yuriko for the live only.)

OK, so this is a bit long. 👏 I watched the bilibili video through and made notes/comments.

The intro to YKL21 sounded like a starter to a Perfume concert to me. Wow! Maybe we (rather I) need another vocal/electronic track from Kajiura.

EMIKO's soaring vocals are so powerful at the start! "black rose" was rosing! Oh yeah, some Indian-style dance moves too. 💃🏽 She was just prancing all over that stage. LINO LEIA was really getting into the movement too. It became the EMIKO show! Hearing a new kajiurago live is SO SWEET! Kaori made a good take at the low range, she hit the notes just missing a bit of the cavernous depth of Keiko.

During the first MC, Kajiura had the ladies speaking a whole lot more 🌹and showing more of their personality during their introductions. Wow, something new and totally unexpected! Joelle seemed to have darker lipstick than usual, and a rose in her hair. Yuriko was the most hilarious: her routine seemed like something she probably started earlier in the tour, since the audience knew exactly what to do, seemingly. This is all like a natural outflow from their activity on social media leading to the live. More of this energy and hype please! Wow! It's like a bit of the freedom that Kalafina has to express themselves in their lives. You have all these lovely ladies (singers) out in front on stage and we usually don't get to see their personalities. It feels like Emiko's entrance (and Kajiura's 60th refresh) has helped with this turnaround. This is already a top Yuki Kajiura Live for me, just with this energy change. I would have loved to see rito around for this vibe.
? Kajiura was kind of hidden behind soloists often, also hiding behind her hair so maybe the choices of angles of the piano or the cameras were weird... (Or maybe I just hyper focused on those shots where I couldn't see her, lol.)

I am also surprised at the layout of the instruments with Kajiura having singers standing in front of her. She seems to have made a strong decision to have more of the focus be on the singers, including with the way they were often spot-lit, and the camera angles too. Curious. I am looking forward to more new Kajiura freedom on stage. Maybe one day she leads a song, even just from the piano? I am sad about the usually-bubbly/dancing Akagi looking much older due to her pain/recovery. 😔Oh, and Junior looked much older with his blond-dyed hair. 😁

Emiko's "Destination" was so smooth. She has such a commanding tone and voice - demands your attention! Kajiura was jumping on the piano when the chorus started. 😁 ⛳ Emiko+Kaori+Yuriko is a solid trio. You need a strong lead and Emiko is surely that!

"kotonohoka yawarakai": Wow, Emiko's placement is more forward and cuts through the mix more than Keiko's voice which was more pharyngeal (that more cavernous, dark sound).
I feel like a traitor but I barely missed Keiko during this live... And I also agree, EMIKO brings a fresh air to the group that probably was long needed.
I feel you on that. It was nice to share the low harmony parts so widely (and unexpected). If Emiko had been doing a straight fill-in for Keiko on every of her usual parts, there would have been much more room for a spotlight and comparison and criticism, especially from Keiko fans. With Kajiura's vocal re-arrangements, it allowed the focus to be more of the music than who's singing what.

"Hachigatsu no Organ" was not bad.

"Hikidashite hakkō shite iru" was sweet and emotional, with Kaori giving it her usual belt-y expressiveness. I just gotta say here that Emiko's voice will never get swallowed in the mix like a few times happened with Keiko's (when's she sang quieter than required, in terms of dynamics or just loudness-wise).

"Toki no mukō, maboroshi no sora" The prime trio in the house! Good to see the three of them singing together. Kaori's low harmony to Joelle's lead for the pre-chorus was surprisingly strong. Lots of body movement, swaying, and expression from the three of them. What's going on this live? It's like everyone took their caffeine before coming on stage, and I'm here for it. Like they've been unleashed for every song.

Always hyped for the start of "Kioku no Mori", with that Hanae chant. No voice more haunting than hers in YK world. ASCA's brighter and poppier voice came in strong from the start, cutting through the mix (again contrasting with Keiko's warmer/throatier sound). Woah! Joelle/LINO LEIA mini-kajiurago on verse 2 shocked me. Nice difference - brighter and lighter than the usual Keiko/Yuriko for that section. ASCA's lead is softer than Kaori's lead on the chorus, so an overall brighter and lighter performance of the song. Very enjoyable! ASCA is so pretty. Did Kajiura mention Yuuka's name during her MC with ASCA?

"Kimigamita yumeno monogatari": ASCA's dramatic action piece. It went very well. It was interesting to have Joelle be doing continuous low harmony for such a long time. She nailed the pitches though her voice is generally lighter/higher so it was a light-touch low harmony. She's also always doing micro dynamics.

"nostalgia" KOKIA starting breathier was definitely a change, with her slight yodels and masterful classical soprano power at the end. Kajiura also mentioned FICTIONJUNCTION YUUKA here again. I don't think I've heard her do this in the lives I've watched. Am I wrong? KOKIA has such a sweet speaking voice too!

"Kaze yo Fuke" As epic as ever! KOKIA holding that last note into a sudden diminuendo with the strings and going on until the very end was very classical of her. 🌹

"aikoi": I liked Korenaga's guitar riffs at the start. This is a song I'm hearing for the first time, and with Joelle and LINO LEIA doing synchronized dancing - VERY unexpected! Unpopular opinion I guess, but this is the time I hearing this song. JUNNA's voice was more rock-ish. For me, I think she only tends to falter on her higher belts where her voice can get thin/shrill. Oh, it's a Yuuka song... so I haven't heard it before, but I think I can understand the vocal contrast with the original in you guys' minds. She tends to approach songs with that ("I must belt") in her mind and sometimes lose out of more of the dynamics and resonance options. She needs another gear or two of power between 1-2-....5!

"Umi to Shinju": I love this song. A positive and bright song. Yuriko returned after a long break (probably due to her health challenges to allow vocal rest). At her MC, Kajiura mentioned "Madoka Magica".

Speaking of which, when are we going to get ReoNa on Kajiura's stage? I would be curious about her doing a cover or two of Kajiura's classic songs with FJ. I guess she needs to do more collaborations with Kajiura.

"lighthouse":
This was LINO LEIA's lead from the front of stage and she didn't own the stage. Emiko had more presence than her, which is unusual. Kaori and Emiko coming in for the bridge showed how it's done. Maybe she was focused on nailing the vocals instead of moving around/jumping. She also leaned forward when singing and came across as more passive. 🤔 I think part of it is also that LINO LEIA's voice is still stuck in her nose a bit so it is not as commanding as it should be as a lead vocalist in an up-tempo among all these powerhouses. It was only her last belt that really cut through for me.

"nowhere": Emiko's interaction with Korenaga was cool - more of this in the future, please! I was surprised the song was a dual-solo between ASCA and JUNNA. The differences in their voices and styles was interesting to behold in real-time (or rather playback time): ASCA has a looser/languid and warmer sound, while JUNNA's is an edgier and more "anxious" sound.

"zodiacal song": It felt a little muted to me without Akagi doing her dancing routine on stage. I also noticed she was less adventurous with her playing throughout, sticking to the middle range. I think we also missed Keiko's interactions with the others for this particular song, especially those interactions always included memories of the many times they've done the song.

I am thinking Emiko or KOKIA should take a stab at the Kimetsu no Yaiba main theme.

"parade" was good as usual. Solid performance all around.

LiSA being around to sing "Homura" was such a treat. She should show up every couple of YKLs, I think. Her voice sounded so strong compared to the last time. Emiko blended so well with her on the low harmony with presence and depth. Joelle's high harmony on the "woah woah" wasn't as present as Yuriko's, since Joelle used a softer, hooty head voice and Yuriko uses more resonance and heavier vibrato.

"Shine in the Cruel Night/Zankokuna yoru ni kagayake" was EPIC! I liked the way LiSA slowed down her phrasing at the beginning of the long bridge section, sort of to indicate that they were not using playback for her vocals. Epicness all around!

"stone cold" had 50% of the original singers but it was still epic! Emiko was just flying all over the stage. 😁 She's a whole vibe all by herself. It felt like she had to contain her energy at times! Korenaga finally had the opportunity to fully let loose with his guitar solo! 🎸🎸🎸 Emiko really filled the low notes for that kajiurago bridge. I completely didn't realize (vocally) that Keiko wasn't there, so good job by Emiko.

I really like JUNNA and I liked her Silly-Go-Round in ykl19, unlike most people here from what I remember, but whatever happened in her ykl21 aikoi was not it.
Thanks for the vid. It was nice to see Hikaru and Yuriko dancing, and hear Hikaru's low voice at this earlier point.

So, yeah, JUNNA didn't go for the soft, expressive feel and delicacy of Yuuka's original vocal performance. JUNNA is a power-oriented singer (and as such isn't necessarily always sensitive in her singing). I think Kajiura may have alluded to her power-singing style in the MC (I say this because of JUNNA doing the muscle pose in response to a comment).

If it was known that JUNNA was going to sing it the way she did that then maybe the song should have been re-written to be a more rock-heavy cover. Her vocals didn't really go with the vibe of the harmony lines which were softer and not a belted structure, so JUNNA's belting stood out.

It's something she needs to work on, more variety and dynamics in her singing, and reserving the heavy, 100% belting, for specific songs. It will make her a more versatile singer. The talent is there but the mindset (and maybe some technique) needs to be ingrained, so she can cover different types of songs.
