Watching Yuki Kajiura ANIME long after they aired.

grunty

I have reached Yuki nirvana
I mean, why not have a thread for this? v( '')v
We don't have to necrobump or spam in other threads.

Me and @CloisteredFlame be watching Petit Cossette now.

@Decretum is on a quest to watch all Kajiura anime apparently but no idea where they are at this moment. XD

(Not sure if I should've put this in Everything Yuki forum section or not.)

cossette EP1 rewatch
chills immediately lol
iconic visual and marina inoue timbre delivery
dem akiyuki shinbo closeups and editing XD
"EEEEHHHH?"
the level of iconic @ main theme far too much
also gotta say I love the rain visuals
whatchugotthereEiri
why did I think of Helena's flashback from Fena just now? lol
maaaan, this show is so my jam still - the atmosphere, the editing, the mystery

OH OH OH creepy glass is creepy~
missing a "few days earlier" titlecard, lul
maaaan the extended "float" hits just right, too
"don't go"
(why did I get a donnie darko feeling now lol)
floating glass
by the power of extended piano section of "unhollowed" - a vision
drama, murder, blood :(
I love these visuals & music so much
wait why are you here mamiko-san (teh deception!)
lol the ending of this ritual scene is such a commercial break moment, but this isn't a TV show lol
I wish I knew what the constant guy-in-glasses closeup is supposed to symbolize
man, I'd like to have these sketches
iconic. iconic. iconic. shot.
aaaand yukari tamura. i forgot about you being here too, lol.

I. love. this. show. so. much.
not so silent "silent ceremony". XD
low rez CG time!
iconic
the visuals. the music. the acting. the drama of it all. the pacing. love.

I still believe this show is the reason I didn't care for Madoka TV much. (Yes, the TV series specifically - Rebellion made up for it.)

ep2
these sketches are so nice
story time with Cossette~
... Eiri... I think you saw what kind of a man he was in that ep1 flashback...
Actually, let me go back - did he even see it? Or was it just for us? Hmmm... to be honest, I don't know...
damn are you popular with the ladies or what
don't remember doing the signature huh? dun dun dun...
wait, so you do know everything.
atmospheric music video time~ yas plz
cossette flipping the mood switch and doing a ghost in the shell backflip lol
yap, dood friend is correctamundo, it be a girl. a 18th century girl.
and another music video~
Eiri not doing great and friends be worried. :(
Puppy~
Cossette sure is flipping back n forth in attitudes, huh? ;)
I've seen this show so many times and I'm still confused. XD
I wonder if someone made some timeline guide for the first 2 episodes... lol.
ghost lore dump
This subplot with the psychic miko is kind of unnecessary. I guess it's to imply the old objects really do have it out for Marcelo/Eiri, but it feels so confused and not that well intergrated. Even in an artsy fartsy anime.
rip
not creepy at all. XD

I'll do ep3 tomorrow I think...

ep3
Kay, so I didn't blog 'cause I was into it. XD
Love the visuals, although this one was not necessarily as tight as ep1 or even 2. The pacing felt a little more laidback for the most part, there wasn't much crazy editing or inspired shot composition really - not that it was bad, just not as tight as it maybe was at the start. I do have one general complaint though and it's that there was a tad bit too much strobing and brightness flickering in this episode.
Music was wonderful, boldly driving a lot of the narrative and visual storytelling as in previous episodes. The unreleased Hoseki and fake jewel arranges will hopefully see the light of day on some release.

Story-wise this was a twist of an episode with little to no real Cossette's soul but the titular portrait of petite Cossette instead. But being the artist in love that he is, Eiri can cut through the BS! The story development works for me although it maybe does feel like a cop-out from the revenge story of the previous episodes a little bit. Mildly curious if the last shot is supposed to be taken literally and which Cossette it's supposed to be really, lol.

Some part of me wants to immediately rewatch the show and try to put scenes from the first two episodes in chronological order but I imagine there's not necessarily a way to do that with 100% certainty... and I kind of like being in this state of confusion that the show puts me in. XD

To me this show to this day is a magical piece of work that oozes atmosphere. Can't wait to rewatch it again in a couple of years.

Yeah, we seem to be having a trend!

We can all just be revisiting stuff together and anyone that wants to join in or exit at any time is free, with comments and opinions welcome.

I am a first-time watcher of most of them so it will be fun. Hopefully other new members can join in the fun as they come around to it!

Sadly i cant joinfor now as there is a supposedly hard approach new anti-piracy law now here that if they see you watching from stream or download copyrighted material they send a fine to the (greek) IRS account of the owner of the internet connection. Im waiting few months to see if it will be actually enforced or its just fireworks.

My order’s kind of all over the place lol, though the next show I’m planning is gonna be Pandora Hearts.

Not sure when I’ll be able to get around to it, but I’ll post my thoughts when I do :)

Might also try rewatching Cossette at some point in the near-future as well, since I only understood about half of the plot when I watched it last year. Plus it’s an OVA so it’ll be good for whenever I feel like going through something shorter.

I might as well give PandoraHearts another go too. The general consensus on that anime seems to be pretty mid to negative these days. I don't remember anything about it except maybe enjoying the comedy. Wonder if being older I'd still enjoy even that aspect. Not to mention I did not really enjoy Vanitas either (but I guess that was mostly to Vanitas x Noe characters & their relationship, which always took 5 steps back whenever I thought the show would finally move forward with it...).

Cossette is an experience. I don't think I even want to fully understand it. :D

Yeah, about this. I've only watched episode one. It just felt like a descent into madness so I'm not sure I want to continue.

It isn't enough to hear Kajiura's music in the anime if the show itself doesn't appeal to me.

Haha! Well, you do you!
Oh but I do! (Or try.)

I need to see a silver lining in the stories I consume. Something someone is fighting for even when they go into the darkness.
Fair enough. If the first episode of Petit Cossette didn't grab you, I guess you might as well drop it.

As for me. Oh boy. The visuals, the editing, the shot composition, the "wat is going on?" of it all, the voice acting, the intensity, the romantic music, the haunting music, the booming music all give me chills. Even with my storytelling nitpicks in the middle episode, the atmosphere carries the show way above any issues I have. It's instant neuron activation for grunty. The show gives me a colloquial boner. XD

If ep1 did nothing for you then yea, too bad.

It seems like it was a really impactful watch for you when you first saw it. That first experience is what makes a show become nostalgic.

Cossette is a timeless experience for me: the atmosphere, writing, animation, visuals, setting... a truly remarkable work of art. The soundtrack is, without hesitation, a crown jewel i never cease to admire and listen to over and over. Houseki and ballad made such an impact to me, so much its single was my first physical kajiwork ever.

Btw i rewatched Noir recently, if you wanna talk about it.
