I don’t think I’ve been that invested in a film in a long, long time. Combine that with an ending theme that’s meant a lot to me over the years, and you get an emotional wrecking ball.

Exactly. That's what I was hinting at myself. Watching through just to hear the ending theme at the end (if you don't enjoy it) is a chore, though the in-between BGMs can make it a bit more bearable, I guess.

Oh, sorry then. I read your post as suggesting that getting through a single episode or movie would be a struggle to hear the ED. So I 1upped you with 100 episodes of SAO. lol.

Haha!

When the music kicks in though it can take you through otherwise less enjoyable or dull parts of an otherwise solid anime and help get you re-invested in the story.

Yeah, that one’s probably gonna end up as the ‘final boss’, lol.

It’s been a really fascinating journey so far; I’ve disliked shows that I thought I’d be partial to, and enjoyed others far more than I expected. And I find it really interesting to see how the music’s incorporation differs from my responses to it from when I first listened to it on my own.

But yeah some of the shows have definitely been a struggle. What tends to help me get through them is that I often don’t have anything better to do, and I can find certain parts to make fun of. (That last episode of .hack SIGN . . . Oh boy.)

Which last episode?
I hope you didn't hate .hack//GIFT. I remember it being a glorious selfparody bonus episode (it was a tokuten for people who got all four of the PS2 games if I remember correctly). XD

Do let me know if you haven't done NOIR or MADLAX yet, I'd love to rewatch those.
