I like Yuki
I can't find a thread on this already, so I'm posting a new one.
Rank. Your. Top. 10. Favorite. Yuki. Songs. Of. All. Time. OMG.
Seriously hard to do, but here are mine:
1. the world: The intro, the vocals, the instrumentation, the emotion, the impact, the coolness of it: all perfect. It's so good I can't describe in real words why it's so good. The Live version took it to a new level. I wish to God I could have heard or seen the Kajiura-fest version.
2. grandpa's violin: This song had such a strong impact in my adolescence. It was source of comfort. Kajiura has once again taken the violin and made it her bitch. This song is my favorite violin song she's ever done. It's amazing the kind of emotion and impact she can harness from two simple instruments.
3. heigen: This song's melody and overall composure is so magical to me, I only let myself listen to this song once or twice a year so that it'll always remain fresh to me. I know that's a little crazy, but when I was a teenager I used to do this with all of Kajiura's vocal songs. Now it's only this one (plus farewell song Live, and to some extent, the world... okay, I'm a nut job, alright?)
4. liminality (especially #1 & #3): breathtaking. I also loved the Live version, and can't wait to see how it goes in volume #11 (still haven't ordered it)
5. frenetic: the ultimate Hanae Tomaru song!!
6. sweet song: I recently learned that Emily Bindiger wrote the lyrics for this song. How cool! The soundtrack version of this song is great, but the Live version is, oh my holy hell good. I think it's truly her very best Live song. The background vocals are sweeter than nectar. The way the main vocals soar and the song goes on its own tangent in between the main choruses makes me want to weep. I loved Margaret Dorn's voice in it, and even more loved Kaori's voice in it.
7. echoes: My favorite Kajiura piano solo. The crescendo always gives me goosebumps. I wish it was like a minute or two longer. I just think it perfectly exemplifies the magic she can create with a piano
8. Sajin no Kanata e: Oh my gosh I cannot grow tired of this song. Every single little moment is so good! And hearing Kajiura's voice shining through the duet part makes me wish she'd sing more.
9. mezame: I'm pretty sure this song was the moment we all realized that Kajiura is a flat-out genius. Right? We can all agree on this, right?
10. melodie - salva nos ver: I'm editing this list to include this one because bar none this is the Yuki song that's constantly in my head above all else. I really don't know why, because it's not one of her most spectacular songs of all time... by far really. But it's almost always in my head and I almost always catch myself singing it to myself. I really do hear the melody "deep in my meeeeeemories" apparently. So for that reason it makes it to my top 10.
Other standouts I didn't get to rank include Tokiro no Mai, romance, credens justitiam, saints, I swear, key of the twilight, let the stars fall down, Mune no Yukue, lotus, Kioku, a farewell song, voyagers and whispering hills.
