Im surprised a thread for this amazing composer doesnt exist yet

You can learn more about her on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Shimomura

Here are previous cpme threads, not generally about her
http://forum.canta-per-me.net/threads/best-of-yoko-shimomura.258/
http://forum.canta-per-me.net/threads/yoko-shimomura-drammatica-interview.480/

there's a VIDEO interview of her here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmdJ6-xdyNk < With piano performances

She has released 2 best-of albums so far, "Drammatica" and "Memoria"
She's best know for her music for Kingdom Hearts series, and some others I dont remember now. She's also composer for Final Fantasy 15

Her style is classical + techno, without vocals mostly. My favourite parts of her music are those amazing violin solos (better than Yuki's :P - try "dark impetus" ). She's actually considered the best female game composer.

Currently out on Youtube are the remastered KH 2.5 musics

* in Kingdom Hearts alot of Disney worlds are visited, so part of the music is out of the various movies.

I had the very same name in mind! along with one other. There are tons of composers that we have no thread for here. I have very little time but every once in a while I will try to post more.

Yoko Shimomura is great. I really recommend Memoria and Drammatica, they are absolute beauties.

Samples from Memoria:

Final Fantasy XV Omnis Lacrima:

For nostalgia purposes: from Parasite Eve:
Primal Eyes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H6GogM2JaM

and of course Legend of Mana:
from Drammatica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrGetw-7byo (ahhh)

Nostalgic Song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de1n8TRj91E (...)

In her pieces, as a motif, intermittent piano sections accompanied with orchestra are very commonly used. Omnis Lacrima is one example of many. Her music is very diverse and she is quite competent in various genres.

Keep it up!

Yoko shimomura's works are always top notch and so well polished (maybe cause she has all the time she needs and not strict anime schedules)

and her style is so characteristic, I can immediately tell it's her work and yet I don't find it the least bit boring, repetitive, or self-plagiarizing. 🥰
