Not sure how much you guys follow general news but... Tokyo was awarded the 202 Summer Olympics!
I was still living in Vancouver during the last winter Olympic Games and, while even when I took some days off - even queueing for over half a day to go to the Canada Mint exhibit where you could touch the medals - I wasn't as excited, mainly because it was in my own city, i.e., the sense of discovery wasn't there.
As for going to Asia for this purpose, while I was born in China, my family left when I was really young and haven't set foot back since. Since I lost track of any family I might have there, plus the fact I didn't have a full grasp of Chinese culture, I haven't had necessarily the desire to go back. However, in the last couple of years, a small desire to go to Asia (specifically, Japan, Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore) has started to grow. Given it is seven years from now, that might give me some time to set funds aside for a somewhat long vacation and claim all those miles I have started to accumulate!
(Side note, I actually have enough miles to do a round trip to a destination in Asia. However, I haven't done so for one silly reason: I hate flying due to motion sickness. Alas, I do so for business reasons but, for the most part, flights within North America is usually ~4 hours + layover time + next leg. Flight to Asia from North America??? Don't want to think about it!).
