The Recommend a Song thread!

sarasara

I eat sleep and breathe Yuki
Hello all! I wanted to try out starting a thread like this, in order to try and introduce/expose Kajiura fans to some more music :D

How this is gonna work is that one person will reccomend (be sure to link it too, if you can!) a non-Kajiura song (or piece, it can also be an instrumental track if you want) that either reminds you of a Kajiura composition, or is a song you think a Kajiura fan would appreciate, and give a few reasons why.
Then, the next person will give their thoughts on the previous person's song (You can rate it too, if you'd like), offer their own song, and it'll keep continuing from there.

I think this is a fun idea so I'll try to keep this thread as alive as possible so, people keep making recommendations! :D

I'll start:
I've been really into Kpop recently (I wrote a 56 page paper about SHINee's entire discography ffs lmao), and I think that there are actually a LOT of Kpop tracks that would appeal to Kajiura listeners (soooo many cool harmonies and countermelodies), so I had to think really really hard about what song to put here, as I could only choose one, but I ultimately narrowed it down.

f(x)- Milk

This song is SUPER unconventional and unlike anything I've heard in Kpop before, which is why I think it'd be appealing to Kajiura listeners. (which is why I love f(x) as a group. They're so experimental and 'out-there' and as a result, they end up creating some of the best, most musically interesting and complex tracks I think I've ever heard. Same goes with SHINee, especially their b-sides. Just like with Kalafina, the majority of Kpop b-sides tend to be better than the title tracks:XD:)

This song has that same awesome Bollywood-esque, Middle Eastern vibe that Tetotetometome had (and to a lesser extent Yami no Uta and Hoshi no Uta) except this one has some even more AMAZING harmonies (f(x) has dethroned Kalafina as being the queens of harmonies for me lol) and a really cool instrumental. It's also significantly more light hearted than Tetoteto too, I gotta say.
Still one of my all time favorite f(x) songs for sure.

Anyways, yeah! Hope everyone enjoys this thread and that we all get to discover new music together :dote:

^ Yummy milk. :tea:

Like what someone on the thread said, whoever is the lyricist deserves a cookie. Trust him/her to be able to use Milk for a song name and content! :goodjob:

I quite liked the refrain part. May need a few more listens to their other songs before I can comment on their harmonies. For now I'll give a 7/10.

Okay, mine's a Mandarin Chinese song

Faraway

Faraway PV < very sad story.

Its a duet by Jay Chou (verse 1, 2nd part verse 2, 2nd refrain part 2) and Fei Yu-Qing. Both are popular Mandopop singers, one in the 80s, one in the 2000s. What happened was that Jay's mother liked Fei's songs, so what better idea to get the idol to co-sing a song?

Ooooo. Okay. I am sure I've gushed a lot about Lindsey Stirling, but she is amazing. She's on Dancing with the Stars now and is doing really well! She's an amazing violinist, dancer, singer everything. Her story is heartbreaking, but she has such an amazing talent and career. I've seen her twice live now. Both were amazing. My favorite songs by her are The Arena and Shadows. I recommend both, but I'll link Shadows, it's from her first album, which was self published, well, most of it is. She does her own choreo for her shows and puts on an amazing performance like Kalafina. This is still when she was starting out, but The Arena is from her recent album: Brave Enough, so that's why I said both of them. If you like Yuki's music, you will love her! She does video game covers such as Zelda, Assassin's Creed, and more!

Shadows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGCsyshUU-A

The dance she does in the video is the one she does in the lives as well. I would check out the live at Red Rock, since it is pretty awesome and free on Youtube. Her hair has gone from brown, to red to blonde. lol I am just amazed at how far she's gotten. Sort of like Kala. Enjoy! I will check out the other songs. This is kind of fun.

Now it's my turn to say I've probably gushed too much about an artist, this time Amy Lee/Evanescence. She just has such a unique and chilling voice that is definitely in my top 5 singing voices, if not top 3. She is also probably my biggest inspiration aside from Kajiura! I'm terms of her songs that are similar to Yuki style things, I would say...

Sally's Song

Speak to Me

Secret Door

And now sort of switching gears to some Jrock, which I've been listening to lately. My favorite jrock bands that I've listened to would have to be My First Story and One Ok Rock (their older stuff). To boot, apparently the singers for both are brothers, which is really interesting.

My First Story- 失踪FLAME (definitely my favorite by them)

My First Story- Reviver

One Ok Rock- Answer is Near

Anyway, sorry for posting like 6 songs instead of 1... I just have a lot to recommend and I swear I won't post that many again:XD:

Sorry, just read rules, sorry....... if you want one song to choose then I would say 失踪FLAME

(And that's a pretty cool song, Liana, I need to listen to more Lindsey Stirling)

Oh yeah @Liana_Ilia Apparently Lindsey Stirling is having a guest part on one of Evanescence's songs that releases on their new album on Friday, being "Hi-Lo"

Interesting thread...
I need to comment to previous post right? Anyway, I always appreciate Amy Lee's voice so it's good to me :goodjob: Not a fan of One Ok Rock though. Preferred Bump of Chicken, Uverworld and Unison Square Garden :ohoho:

These are from OSTs from the game I am playing called Granblue Fantasy and if you like typical Kajiura, you might be surprised by the similarities of these two:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGnUBjbd32Y - Reminded me so much of Xenosaga II main theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVGOSMflD0w - Intro sounds like believe x Synchronicity(Yui Makino ver.) and the arrangement is like your typical Kajiura.

Yeah guys, make sure you comment on the previous person's song! That's the whole point of this thing, after all :D

Anyways @Nightmare , I listened to those two tracks, and you're right they really remind me of Kajiura, especially that first one. I wonder who composed it. JRPGS in general almost always tend to have really strong soundtracks, I've noticed, and that song is no exception, I really liked it. I especially liked this part, with all the cool countermelodies.

Now, for my song, I'd like to reccomend Taemin-Ace
(Taemin is a member of my favorite Kpop group, SHINee, and this is one of his solo songs)
My favorite genre of music is R&B, which is a genre that Kajiura doesn't really do all that much admittedly, but this song is a stellar example of the best of the best R&B out there, if you're willing to expand your music tastes and give it a listen :P.
This is a truly amazing track, and still probably one of my favorite Taemin tracks out there. That slow R&B beat in this song is AMAZING and Taemin's smooth vocals and harmonies (THIS COUNTERMELODY) are just :hearts:
His song Until Today is also incredible. It's actually more of an R&B power ballad, Taemin's voice is just so good and so full of emotion, it gives me goosebumps. There are also so many tough runs and adlibs in this song and he pulls them off so well.

I'm not sure how much people here like Micheal Jackson, but Taemin is often referred to as the Korean Micheal Jackson, so if you like MJ I STRONGLY recommend checking out some of Taemin's stuff, he has a truly great discography and he's extremely talented, both at singing and dancing, especially for how young he is.
(Danger is a song that gives everyone MJ vibes lol. Offtopic but I LOVE the modulation to major in the bridge of that song, ugh so good)

^Nice Song! I really liked whoever the girl with the operatic voice was. It's really unique.

The song I'm recommending is When it Rains by Paramore (song starts at 1:26)

EDIT: Just realized that's an acoustic version XD. It's still nice, but here's the original version: :tea:

^another Paramore fan (although I am not really fond of their latest work *hides from tomatos and eggs*)

Here is one song I would recommend (hard choice as I am a huge fan of Ayumi Hamasaki and there are so many songs I could recommend, but this one and especially this performance is so... see for yourself)

This song was originally written after 9/11 and this performance was recorded in September 2011 as the ending of her Power of Music tour, which was created from scratch after the huge earthquake and tsunami.

I quite liked that song! Especially the live orchestra :) I really liked how the song kept building and building into the chorus. Not sure I quite understand the context but the way she kinda broke down was pretty moving too.

I'd like to recomend another Kpop song that I think will be appealing to Kajiura fans, especially fans of melodically interesting ballads. EXO- Stronger.

There are soooo many amazing things about this track, like the HARMONIES, the adlibs, the piano instrumental, a bunch of really really unconventional and chilling chord progressions, and of course EXO’s amazing vocalists. Kpop vocalists get a bad rep for lip syncing often and for not being good live singers, but this performance single handedly disproves that. Every single vocalist sounds SO good here, it’s unreal. All the vocalists here have absolutely amazing support and resonance and I get chills every single time I listen to this live performance. It’s just so soulful and legit beautiful.

I also love how you can visibly see all of the members get in the song. Look at Chen in the back here mouthing along while D.O.’s singing. Also here and here you can see him moving along to the beat, I just adore how seeing how passionate he is. I think he is a very expressive singer, he just emotes so well when he sings (especially here), it’s really moving to watch. He sounds absolutely impeccable in this live too. Chen is considered one of the best vocalists in all of Kpop and it's sooo easy to see why (LISTEN TO THIS, MY GOD. HE'S A TENOR AND HE CAN SUPPORT A F5 like wHAT)
Special mention to Baekhyun’s amazing adlibs and high notes in this song, he does them so effortlessly live and with so much support and resonance too!

^ Not a K-Pop guy anymore, so I was like ". . . meh" then BAM 1:12 hit and I was all over the song :tea:

I come first with a fairly old song from the band Rin' (whose radio introduced me to Wagakki Band) called "New Day Rising". I was (and am still) very alarmed at how much I've replayed this song upon discovering it. It's so . . . simple.

Secondly, several of you have seen that I've been gushing over NieR:Automata and most notably its entire OST recently. I'm sorry to continue that, but I just have to put A Beautiful Song here. I enjoy how the song title reminds me of Consolation in that it's not what the average person would typically expect. Also, the alto pulled a bit of a Keiko Kubota on me, as I fully thought she was a man, until I saw the live version of this song. (Afterward I understood why, and I hate to relate it to her race, but in my opinion it's a bit of a factor.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMKskuvJTcs
The Automata OST is shockingly one of the “reminiscent-of” OSTs in which I don’t think “I’d like to hear this with/from Kajiura singers” . . .
(Actually, I would, although that wasn’t anywhere near my first thought, as it usually is. Let me correct that to the selfish and opinionated yet likely more honest “I think this would sound better with Kajiura singers”.)

That song is really relaxing, I like it :dote:

The song I recommend today is Galileo Galilei's "Climber" (クライマー), the chorus is really catchy and his voice is really chill :fan:

^The song is quite catchy. I really like the voice of the singer. Like you said his voice is really chill.

Just a small reminder as the year 2017 is ending in a few days.
Sorry for posting more songs, but the message(s) they are conveying are important (at least for me)
Treasure the moment, treasure your life and treasure the world you live in…
Gosh I’m getting teary again (although I am not really in a christmasy mood…)
