As mentioned in my quick intro, I recently started to listen to Kalafina and FictionJunction songs and concerts. This is what I got currently:

Kalafina:
CD - Seventh Heaven, Consolation (both downloaded via iTunes Canada), Alleluia (pre-order)

FictionJunction:
None?

Kajiura Yuki Live:
BD - Live #9, Live #4 (in the mail)

FictionJunction Yuuka:
CD - Destination

So, here is the situation. Since I have a bit to catch-up, I am interesting in buying some CD/BD/DVD. At home, I can easily play either Live in the meantime and that should (temporarily?) satisfy the FictionJunction listening needs. I am OK with Yuuka, as Destination has the insert songs I am looking for and Live #4 BD will containg additional songs. And that brings Kalafina. I will be pre-ordering the Consolation Special Final BD once it is available for pre-order, but looking at the song list, I know some of the Red Moon songs won't be in After Eden and vice-versa. For the most part, I am OK with it. Instead, the weird question is: For viewing purposes (and, of course, listening), which one should I go for first, i.e., Red Moon or After Eden? I know that eventually, I will be getting both but, in the nearby/inmediate future, which one might be bringing more instant gratification?

Two side questions:

1) Aside from Kajiura Yuki Live #4 and #9 are there any other lives in BD/DVD?
2) I think there was mention of a Kalafina 5th Anniversary concert broadcasted in WOWOW. Is this available in BD/DVD?

Thanks for any feedback!

(And, admin, if this is the wrong area, can you, please, move it to the correct area?)

I'd go for Red Moon.

Vol. #2, DVD only.

Nope. You can find it in nyaa torrents.

Go for Red Moon next, I'd say. It was (and arguably still is) my favourite work by Kalafina, although Consolation is giving it a good run for its money. After Eden is good, but it's probably their weakest work overall, although it does have Sandpiper. I'd recommend either downloading or getting the Progressive and Storia singles, too, as that way you'll have Utsukushisa and Lirica. Why those two are b-sides I don't know. I don't think they're available for legal download though, so do what you will.

I know when I finally get round to starting buying FictionJunction stuff I'll be starting out with Everlasting Songs, though. Seems to be a good place to start from, especially since it has Cazador del Amor.

for listening purposes such as albums i'd definitely pick red moon, although personally i found after eden live much more enjoyable than the red moon live

I second the suggestions for the Everlasting Songs CD + FictionJunction 2008-2010 The BEST of Yuki Kajiura LIVE CD. They are excellent selections of both FictionJunction and FictionJunction Yuuka.

I also suggest buying Red Moon off Canadian iTunes ASAP. Totally cheap, totally worth it.

Regarding Red Moon live vs. After Eden live... I agree with other posters that Red Moon live is better due to the stronger song selection (After Eden is probably their weakest album). However, I think the live DVD/bluray improved upon many of After Eden's songs, while Red Moon's songs were already excellent in their studio versions. Red Moon does contain some nice performances of Seventh Heaven songs as well though... hmm.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and suggest getting the After Eden live first--and you can skip the After Eden CD, not all that necessary, imo. Definitely get Red Moon too once you've saved up.

Oh, if you're into the audio aspect of lives, I also suggest getting Kalafina's Live Best Selection. Contains some lives not found elsewhere (Serenato, Ashita no Keshiki, and an acoustic version of Sprinter, ect.)

Kalafina singles: I suggest Lacrimosa and Storia for the b-sides, Gloria and Lirica. Progressive single is cool too though I personally just listen to the live version in the CD mentioned above. Sapphire is another nice b-side, but it's covered by the Red Moon DVD.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions! It seems Red Moon Live it is (for now), but... Based on your suggestions, it will take a while. After all, only that much $$$! ^_^;;;

Seasonreaper, thanks for the suggestions for Progressive and Storia singles. Alas, they are not in iTunes, as you mentioned. Will have to check the stores.

Kerahna, you know, after looking at the list, I realized there are a couple of songs I might be interested, specially Materialise! The only catch is that, because I am getting the Live #4, there will be a bit of overlap. I guess, eventually! :)

Coral, Red Moon CD done! :) When I originally checked their CDs in iTunes, for some reason, that was the one I was least attracted initially to but some of the songs did start to grow on me. However, there is still that one song...

Is it Te To Te To Me To Me? It is, isn't it. I managed to put my mother off Kalafina because that song is right at the start of Red Moon :uh..: . I quite like it personally but I can see why people wouldn't. Same with Moonfesta, although I adore Moonfesta.

^... odd. for some reason, i've had that exact same experience... like the exact same. what a weird trend :ayashii:

although for the live, tetotetometome is like "why are they dancing??? so weird, yo". and then i actually grew to appreciate the dancing very much OTL keiko and hikaru gogogogogo :punched:

Wow, was it so obvious??? :uh..:

Yeah, it is Te To Te To Me To Me. To make a (bad?) analogy, it is as if I was listening to The Bangles and heard Manic Monday followed by Walk Like an Egyptian. You expect a style of songs and suddenly an 180 degree turn! Did like the dancing, though! ^_^;;;

I am OK with Moonfesta, as the "weird" part is only at the beginning.

Is it because they're happy songs? lol. Tetote has a cheery playful feel to it imo. I can almost feel Keiko bouncing up and down when she sings.

I don't like Kajiura's brighter, bubblier, happier songs as much as I do her darker or sadder ones. I came here to listen to songs singing of the world's screams, of a love so deep it knows no bounds. XD (Adore and Lirica's lyrics just popped up in my mind)

I dont think you should be expecting a certain style of songs in Yuki's new albums since when it comes to new album songs (that have no tie to anime/game) she tends to try new music styles, some examples are Ongaku (seventh heaven album) Tetotetometome (Red Moon album), signal, Hanataba ( Consolation album)) unless you have certain dislike to middle-east / indian type of songs, which I would understand, but Yuki's ones are alot better than the songs of the style you can find out there.

George, I am glad artists are willing to experiment, as otherwise, it is pretty much more of the same old stuff over and over (and that's despite Kajiura does two "versions" of the same song at times, i.e., Credens Justitiam vs Mirai). From the list you gave, as mentioned in another thread, I have a love/hate relationship with Ongaku, like Signal and I am good with Hanataba. I don't mind the mix of different type of songs, from a really upbeat Mata Kaze Ga Tsuyokunatta to a slower Kimi Ga Hikari Ni Kaeteiku in the same album. Likewise a cheerful Mirai to a "sad" Manten. As for themes/motiff, I am good with Moonfesta. Overall, there is that something I can't explain. And I can guarantee you it is not the theme! (*)

However, in the end, it is a single song. I would like to believe you need one song you won't like much to make the others more enjoyable and balance things out! :)

(*) I used to listen to Dehli 2 Dublin, a Vancouver music group which mixed "modern" Punjabi music with Celtic. If you do a search for "Delhi 2 Dublin CBC", it will lead you to CBC links with some of their songs. Recommend Celtic Dub and Get on the Bus.
