A long time ago, I had collected all the Yuki Kajiura music I could get my hands on, and put it into a playlist, to rate and such.
Wow! I...actually finished my Yuki Kajiura playlist...it had 1,214 songs in it. Some of the albums were incomplete because I'd listened to them previously, and decided I didn't like enough songs to keep the whole thing. I also just now realized I should take out all the non-Kajiura theme songs and such. ^^; So if I include the songs I'd previously deleted, and exclude non-Kajiura theme songs and such, the count jumps up to 1,261. It took well over a year, and I still can't believe I'm done with it.
Ahem...anyway...
I found out that I like 37% of her music, I find 24% meh or alright to listen to once, and dislike 39%.
I'm disappointed to find I only like 1/3 of her music. I feel like a bad fan now.
Okay, now on to what I like and don't like.
I love just about anything vocal Kajiura puts out.
The soundtracks are another matter. They're a varied mottle of likes and dislikes, with no real rhyme or reason to them. If I were to listen to a new soundtrack, it could be gold, a dud, or anywhere in between. However, there are some soundtracks that stand out for me, either by being very good, or being very bad.
I am in love with the Noir OSTs, and always will be. Then again, I might be biased because I heard them first. I like the .hack//SIGN OSTs second-best, then Madlax.
My least favorite are the Kara no Kyoukai OSTs (seriously, all the good tracks could be condensed into one album), Xenosaga, and Madoka.
My favorite styles are: anything vocal, like I said, epic pieces like Salva Nos and Mezame, calm but not boring pieces like Corsican Corridor, creepy little pieces like System 0212 (from Eat-Man) and At Dawn, and ethnic-sounding pieces like Liar You Lie.
If anyone's actually bored enough, I've linked the text file I used as my playlist. It details exactly what I was thinking as I listened to each song.
