Kalafina Acapella

I eat sleep and breathe Yuki
I was on Youtube and stumbled across these videos randomly: (if this has been posted somewhere else before, feel free to delete)

What do you guys think of them? They were uploaded recently so I assume not many people have really seen them yet lol
I found it really interesting to see Kalafina sing numerous non-Kajiura songs (aside from the few Kalafina songs that were thrown in there), and acapella no less!
I especially liked when they sung 'Gloria in excelsis Deo'. Even though I'm not religious, I can appreciate how pretty this song is, and Kalafina's harmonies made it even better.
It was also really weird hearing them sing super generic Jpop songs lol, I almost couldn't recognize their voices. :wai:
(The acapella 'Natsu no Ringo' was my favorite tho :hearts::hearts:)
But anyways, what does everyone here think of them? I'm curious :ayashii:

Ookina kuri no ki no shita de :shy:Wakana~

I still find it odd no one has told them how to say EXCELSIS.

I was the one who uploaded those videos. It look me forever to find the songs and the lyrics, but it was worth it. I'm proud of my work.

After the Natsu no Ringo radio session, they did an acapella of Kugatsu ahhh

Ahh really? Thank you so much for that then! I really enjoyed listening to them !! :) :dote::dote:

@magicmagiamahou You were the one who uploaded those videos? I watched them about a week ago and they're really good. I heard a lot of a capella things by them that I hadn't heard in the past. They're great! :goodjob:

Because when they sing their own songs (on concerts) they care more about producing sound/voice like Kajiura told them to, rather than letting their natural voice comes out. Wakana's voice changing is all Kajiura's fault (she told her to sing in a different voice than what she has used before) and I'm pretty sure it's also the case with Hikaru.

tldr: Kajiura is actually not a good producer.

that doesnt make sense, in the audition they used their natural voice, and i bet in their first years they used their natural voice too, so why change it now if the makes them sound less good ?

It's all about producing that Kajiura sound. Kajiura wrote the songs, so obviously she has expectations as to what they would sound like.

However, she has been a lot less "controlling", for lack of a better word, in recent recordings, most notably from Consolation onwards. She basically gives the girls free reign on how to sing and let the girls sing according to their own style. Also probably why the girls sound way better singing recent songs than they do their older ones.

I agree, @Kirito. "MUSUNDEHIRAKU" is probably one of the only songs in the post-After Eden era where I hear HIKARU using that same nasally voice I was introduced to from the first album.

Nope, not agreeing as I normally would with Atlas Star about Musunde Hiraku. Hikaru still holds her voice on that song, she's not as open/nasal as she used to be. The last song with nasal/wide open Hikaru voice imo is moonfesta (studio version). Kajiura told them to use the voice she wanted to hear for the sake of Kalafina's step-up (iirc) but to me it's the start of Kalafina's step-down lol.

For me, it's also a problem of 'techniques', in other words, is that they are too focus on the singing techniques when it comes to their own songs. Giving certain amount of concentration to techniques is good, but too much will cause some sort of counter-effect (trust me, been there done that).

Hikaru is the most noticeable example. Whenever she sings it the natural way, she might not hit some notes right but at least it still sounds quite good; vice versa, whenever she over-concentrates on her techniques (like where to stress, where to soften her voice, using her rockish voice at some parts, etc. I don't know how to explain it precisely), her voice turns out to be strained and she hit even more wrong notes.

Not that I say they shouldn't be focus to their singing techniques when it comes to their own songs, but I think sometimes they need loosen a little bit and be conscious about the own natural feelings too.

We don't know to what extent she asked Wakana to sing in a different voice though. We don't knwo if she asked her to sing in a different voice/timbre or a different technique.

Either way, Wakana is the one that fucked up.

@sarasara If you are really interested and have the time, it can be listened and downloaded at their BAYFM Page , changed on a weekly basis.

Their random banter are hilarious. It's a nice staple when there's not much going on.
The timing is a little late for my side however.
