Again VERY interesting interview!

I wonder why she wonders that people stayed with her by playing their music, not listening first, what the audience wanted to hear.
You cannot always only play songs the audience wants to hear.
I think the live tours met just the right spot between niche and all-time-greats.

When you think about it... to be able to pick a setlist of 60 of your own songs!
Not only does this show her GREAT affection to creating wonderful music, that over so many years people wanted to listen to!
This also means lots and lots of work to re~work oneself into these 60 songs to be able to perform them again.
This requires (potential) long forgotten instruments, that might be brought back to life, find the right techs to repair and prepare them,
go through all the material, carefully select the front members, try to get the alltime great band members together on specific days, practice with the always-changing front members, carefully choose and rent the locations... [...]

This list will barely ever end. This is so much of a logistic masterpiece to make all that happen.. and in a way people like it, and want to attend the next concert also! - And if possible buy merch even... which also needs to be thought about and produced in good quality first..

Thumbs up and hats off : )

Great thoughts!

It's not complicated. I'd rather have the raw video, without Chinese subtitles. As I am missing this interview from my own shite YK collection.

A: I'm the type of person is absolutely incapable of raising others (lol). Therefore, I take the stance of "please grow". The young people I work with are mostly singers. But it take tremendous amount of work for a singer to acquire technique and/or improve. It's not something that changes overnight just because I said something; it takes years of bleeding hard work. I know how difficult it is (for the singer), so I can't say something as presumptuous like "I've raised these singers".

Instead, I've merely been observing whether people have been taking in my feedback and change. For the people who change, I'm able to point out something else and we can move forward. For the people who don't change, I have to say the same thing 100 times and leave it at "that's the kind of person they are". Even though they'll never move to the next stage, it's neither a good or bad thing because whether to grow is that person's own choice. It only means that the people who don't change will keep doing the same work at the same place/level, whereas the people who change will keep progressing to the next stages of their career, that's all. But I will say this - if I'm asked which type of person is more interesting to work with, it would be definitely with people who change over time. Because if they're capable of evolving, then I could also a try different things with them next time!

Just reading through and saw this post. I wonder who she had in mind for these comments, both for the static and the evolving vocalist. 🤔

It could be theoretical but she had many vocalists over the years who were young n grew up both in terms of vocals and who they are.

Grow up vocalists: Keiko Kaori Wakana Hikaru, Lino Leia
Those who were already perfect n keep doing the same thing: Chiaki , Kasahara n rest of ost vocalists pretty much., plus all the musicians.
Those who refused to grow: Maya, Rito

I actually have a different take. 🤔

She seemed to be saying that some singers't who were limited and didn't improve (or at least't didn't get better at delivering what she wanted) even after telling them 100 times, she resigned to giving them a limited range/variety of songs that suited their more-rigid style. Other singers could adapt and take on new challenges so she could expand the variety and styles of music she wrote for them.

I suspect that we may have many different ideas from Kajiura's on which singers fit into which categories.

I was gong to comment on this snippet.

Why'd you say Maya and rito "refused to grow"? By "grow" did you mean to say they didn't stay long with Kajiura?

Or were you trying to say that they didn't improve or evolve as singers which is what was implied by Kajiura's original reference to "growth"?

No what happened is they chose a differebt path for their life, and i respect that, i included them there half jokingly because they left shortly after getting into Kajiura fam. Actually i dont know who refuses to grow among the vocalists. Only Kajiura knows that.
