Since I'm still on a contact high from seeing Kalafina last Friday at Anime Central, I'll make one of these posts to get out my lurker status. I was looking up a translation for Kalafina song on google when I found this site. The site has been a valuable source for Kajiura news ever since.
I'm a 32 yr old Chinese-American, born and raised in San Francisco, CA, and still work and live in the area. I speak English and Cantonese fluently, understand enough basic French to communicate, and have tried to learn Mandarin and Japanese off and on over the years but haven't been fully dedicated. My hobbies include listening to music (prog and alt rock, older jazz, and nice vocal music that covers a lot of genres), cooking/baking, travelling, eating/drinking, snowboarding in the winter, and hiking when I can drag myself into the warmer weather.
Started watching anime back in high school, and I do still watch some anime every now and then, but not as much as I used to, sticking primarily to science fiction and fantasy genres. Part of the reason I became an engineer was because of my love of mecha as a child, and I'm still a sucker for mecha anime.
My introduction to Kajiura Yuki's music was from the anime soundtracks that she's scored, like Noir, Madlax, and Gundam Seed, then later as See Saw for the .hack/sign series. I think the main reason is I enjoy her mix of classical, electronic, and rock elements for a unique sound and I'm a sucker for combining violin and electric guitar. When I heard the ending songs from the first few Kara no Kyoukai movies, the music style was so familiar and lovely that I had to look up who Kalafina was, and was pleasantly surprised to learn of their connection to Kajiura-san. I've been a big fan of Kalafina (and fictionjunction) ever since.
If I had to pick a favorite song from each Kalafina album, they would be:
oblivious from Seventh Heaven, Red Moon from Red Moon, kagayaku sora no shijima ni wa from After Eden, and obbligato from Consolation.
