Hello there!

frutibuffle

I like Yuki
Hi,

First start listening to Kajiura around 2015 when I start watching anime, back then I really loved the music from Madoka + Fate/Zero and later Kara no Kyoukai, but it's only a few years ago when a bunch of my friends pushed me to join them on the AMQ blindtests that I really got me into Japanese music (Though I absolutely should listen to more songs/artist outside of anisong x)). I was able to see Kajiura for the first time at Animagic last weekend, I actually created the account a bit before the event to look for info, but it took a little while to be accepted.
I actually used the site a few years early to find a link toward a sheet music.
I kind of regret not being a fan earlier, as I will probably never will be able to watch Kalafina or See-Saw reunion live at their "prime".

My favorite songs are Anna ni issho datta no ni, Synchronicity and Oblivious, though recently I started to listen to Kirai ni Nariatai a lot
Favorite anime soundtrack are from Madoka Magica, Mai-Hime, and Tsubasa Reservoir. (So much not so good anime from early 2000 carried by Kajiura...)
Favorite singers of kajiura songs: Chiaki Ishikawa, Keiko, Eri Itou and Yuuka. Honorable mention to Yui Makino; wish we had a bit more songs from her.
Other favorit artist of the moment (as it changes pretty regularly): Kanoko Ito (Fav song: Skyclad observer orchestral version) , Fripside (fav song Only my Railgun) and Asaka (fav song Natsuyasumi Noisy).

Lucky you! How was the experience for you and which song performance(s) stuck with you?
My favorite songs are Anna ni issho datta no ni, Synchronicity and Oblivious
Nice selection of songs. Good that you like SEE-SAW too.
Favorite singers of kajiura songs: Chiaki Ishikawa, Keiko, Eri Itou and Yuuka.
Top-shelf singer list too! It would be a dream to have Chiaki guest on Yuki Kajiura Live, with the songs rearranged for backing vocals by the FJ ladies.

WELCOME to the forum and I also hope you have a great time here!

On the + side,
Yuki is quite funny, I was a bit afraid she'd only speak in german as I knew she lived a few year in west germany, but she spoke in english most of the time.
I really loved Hibari (by ASCA, but still a Kajiura song!)

As for Kajiura's concert it feel like the concert was too short (only 5 songs on the first days, a bit more on sunday) , and it was really frustrating that there was a huge overlap between their 2 concerts. Kind of wished we'd get less generic songs.
But i guess it was inevitable as people were coming not just for her and songs from the most popular anime would be sung + maybe contractual issues with the songs from the Kalafina era.

But Come on I don't need lighthouse or Swordland two times, give me Yuriko Kaida and Kaori Oda's objective best songs (Canta per me and Calling)!
Still I enjoyed Stone Cold and Parallel Heart, not my absolute favorite one but definitely in my top 50

Kanata is kind of forgettable I feel that Yuki composing FJ song has become a limitation of her creativity. All the recent songs I like from her have a clear lead and doesn't sound exaggeratedly Kajiuresque

I may sound very negative, but imo most of the things are related to a bad context (like the song selection, how short it was, the not so good audio as there were no musicians on stage etc...), some of my expectations being too high.

Regarding Chiaki Ishikawa,
After their splitup she had a very good career, but I wish that their duo lasted a bit longer, or that we'd have more songs from Chiaki written by YK.

Omg another “Calling” fan! That song deserves so much more than it gets. Also, you’re spot on with this; I get why the setlists are consistent but can’t we get some more spice!

in regards of calling i believe that its a good song but not Kaoris best one. I would say there are 10 better ones than it (but this comes from a fan of Kaori for 13 years who sadly had the misfortune not to see the concert in germany which happened to be on my birthday)
otherwise welcome here pal

welcome to cpm! exciting that you got to see YK/FJ at Animagic. synchronicity is one of my favorites as well - do you prefer the original ver or the FJ arrangement?
Though one, I listen to both version quite a lot (also enjoy the [UPDATE] version of Yui Makino and a piano cover from ytb); they have very different vibes. The power and intensity in Keiko's version vs the love song from Sakura/Yui Makino
In the end if I have to pick one, it's Makino's one, it's more unique as it's vastly different from her other songs (like the one in Aria) while for Keiko it's one of her good songs among others.

Thanks! I love Decretum, always associate the song to Sayaka, my favorite char from Madoka Magica

I am interested, which one do you consider to be her top 5 best song?
TBH she is not my favorite FJ singer, I find that it's often a hit or miss when she has the main role. For instance, I found her very neutral when she sung instead of LiSa in From the Edge.
Shame that you missed her!

5 Addicted: Hispanic Instrumental? Check. Kaoris emotional power voice? check. This was the song that sparked my interest for her.
4 TRAP: A song that combines rock with some other genres in a fantastic way.
3 Blazing Star: If there was a song of her I would be inclined to dance too, than it is surely this one
2 Magnetic Fighter: This song has the perfect combination of tempo changes and shifts and Kaoris adaptability in regards of her vocals.
1 Savanna no Hayate: Two Words: Master Piece. I love everything about this song. The text which describes Kaoris musical journey (In an interview at 2017 she mentioned it if the translation was correct). The melodies which combines the of my other favs of her in this regard (Honki no usos western feel with addicteds hispanic feel). It is also to say that my fav among the composers which Kaori worked in her solo carreer is at it. And of course Kaoris voice. But besides some little problems her voice is absolute gold.
Here are my top 5 and yeah its really a shame since i always wanted to met her but financial issues and the high distance from my hometown to mannheim were a hindrance

Oh, that's one of my recent favorites too. It's a gentle song that I always enjoy listening to: who led the song?
Yuriko Kaida and Kaori Oda's objective best songs (Canta per me and Calling)!

I am curious about what you mean about the limitation of her creativity and FJ songs.

Did youu prefer her writing for a solo partner (Chiaki, Emily, etc.)?

The super Kaori fan.

Please can you explain her being "neutral"?

Thanks for the list of Kaori's songs, will give it a try.
Yeah Mannheim is not too far from where I live (west germany is well connected to Paris by train) but still 2 friends of mine who were interested couldn't afford it.

Hmm, how to say it?
You know, her trademark genre with Kajiurago, choral arrangements with orchestra + electronic beats?
Over her whole career, I loved a lot of them, but after so many years composing music in this genre, IMO she has pretty much exhausted the possibilities and struggle to renew herself, in contrast to her solo songs which can still be good.

So maybe, since people don't know your tastes, give some examples of what you like NOW, rather than songs from 20 years ago?

Chances are even what you like from more recent songs other people would call most "kajiuraesque".

there are so many more of her solo songs i like more when she sing her solo parts in yukis concerts than her recent covers. i feel when she was younger it came better or some songs fit others better than her
(for me was the impossibility to afford everything to get there)
PS: here is a playlist to show you how much of a fan i am of hers https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFPoy79OAXjs

Welcome!

I am probably the most fanatical Chiaki Ishikawa fan on this forum, and also like to see some of the vocalists and musicians solo and in other settings (e.g. Eri Itoh in the title role for Mother Theresa the musical, Koichi Korenaga backing Akira Asakura, Rie Akagi with bandoneon and classical guitar accompaniment), Aira Yuuki, Kaori Oda , Joelle lives, Sound Horizon lives and Kaori Hikita lives.

Yuki Kajiura seems to attract lots of good singers and musicians.

Hope that you explore at least some of her music and related artists.

I also like many other anime and game music artists, and recently attended a live show by Kanako Ito and Hassy:
