For shits and giggles since nothing's really happening right now. Let's see how YK's recent-ish STUDIO SONGS fare among our forum users. Thread is obviously aiming for post-SPACE CRAFT works, since that's been a clear divide (and we may be entering a post-KEIKO era, kek) and one of the popular metas ever since. YK announced at the start of 2018 that she had already parted ways with SC.

Please reply with a post of UP TO FIVE choices and make note of the last option in the list below, if you desire to explicitly express your disappointment with this era. (It can be your only choice, if you so desire; I will also count it as a vote when someone votes on less than 5 songs.)

Try to base your choices on the released STUDIO recordings, rather than live performances. Re-arrangements of haruhayuku and Hibari are included. If I missed any songs feel free to include them in your vote post, I will edit this post.

Full length songs with production by Yuki Kajiura only. (Which means no soundtrack vocal tracks, the still unreleased "fairy game / FictionJunction feat. shuri" or YK's contributions to KEIKO's "Lantana" or Yuriko's "Tokoshie ni" releases.)

I was going to make an actual POLL but the forum only allows 10 options which is, well, not enough for this list. :)

# 3 Sarigiwa no ROMANTICS > Its see-saw so what's not to like ?
# 3 Umi to Shinju > I like how uplifting it is
# 5 Taiyou no Kouro > and this is really fresh Kajiura song and i havent seen such hopefull and upfiting song since Yume no Tsubasa
and if there was #6 i 'd put Kazeyo, Fuke mostly because i really enjoy Kokia

sore wo chiisana is great with Keiko in it and the new arrangement is a welcome improvement, but didn't make me listen to it lots of times.

Maybe they are blocked in some countries, I'll try to find working ones. If you could tell me which ones do not work for you?
Or if you could find official AUTO GENERATED versions that work for you, that would be great.
 
For me Tokoshie is my least favourite from the KnY songs and its not because its sung by a dude (since i love "Shoot!" or that Yume no Tsubasa with Shaoran in it) but the melody/arrangement doesnt cut it for me and its so generic .
 
I think I completely erased Yume no Tsubasa duet ver. from my memory, as I did with the Yui Makino original now that I think of it. How educational this thread is already!

eh it is generic middle eastern(?) Kajiura but Hyde does a fantastic job making it something special - for me at least.

Honestly if Akeboshi didn’t have those weird mood+key changes I’d have picked that as my fav KnY song

The refrain totally takes me out. But that intro and entire ending :chuu:
And in all honesty, there are times when I get into it by the middle of the refrain... But the switchup from verse to refrain is always rough.

:cheer:I beg you is still one of her most impressive, ear-catching works to me in recent years...! Also with elegant tasty lyrics.

Homura - a bit special too because it was the very first time I (nearly throughout entire song) enjoyed the blending of Lisa's voice and emotions with YK melody and arrangement, another step up from Akeboshi which was already a pretty big improvement from From the edge. I never really liked Lisa's squeaky style in general :(

Parade is my absolute favourite song in PARADE. It's simple but shines with a very gentle comforting breeze of 'life'. It's a beautiful Kajiura song to me and touches my heart every time I hear it, moreso in live performances. For nearly 2-3 months after it was released I was listening to it every single day on my journey to work... especially heavenly when I was walking up a long bridge above a river surrounded by nature bathed in spring/summer sunlight. :shy:

With my basic understanding of/connection to FSN, Kajiura completely snapped on "I beg you" lyrics. I think it's the only song where I actually got active in the Lyrics section of the forum, lol. Job well done. No notes. That combined with Aimer's delivery makes it this absolutely delicious song of torment.

My top 1 song in this era is Kimigamitayumenomonogatari. It has an ear worming melody like no other song in this era and Asca's performance (in the studio version) take it over the top. Plus violins. Lots of violins. It's also the most "classic Kajiura" song of the bunch IMO.

Moonlight melody (the FJ version) is a very very close 2nd though. Yuriko's vocals just take it to the next level and she actually gets to be main vocalist for once. It's on par with Hikaru no Senritsu which Yuki claims to be her "once a decade" magnum opus.

  • wonderland 💬 (I was insanely obsessed with this song)
  • Kotonohoka Yawarakai 💬 (My first thought for this song was "this is a Kalafina song >:(" but now I think Kalafina plagiarised it - lmao)
  • Sore ha chiisana hikari no youna
  • Hibari 💬 (TBH Hanae's vocals add an incredible value)
  • I beg you 💬 (lots of hidden vocals and details, the production of this song is underrated)

It was pretty difficult at the end of the list, I really considered Akeboshi and Hachigatsu no Organ (rage!).


PD: 💀 Me realising that Hana no Uta was released in Space Craft era...
